Nature has groomed the golf course with a perfect crust this early morning. Get it before it softens!

Grooming
[ Trails: Closed, Bare ground ]
That is a wrap on the nordic ski season. The thaw has left us with bare ground or ice and we expect more warm weather ahead. Many thanks to our hardworking groomers and everyone who came out and used our trails this winter. Saint Paul Parks and Recreation really values having ski trails within our urban setting and hope you do to.

Firsthand: Freestyle
[ Trails Open: All, Rock skis ]
Thought I’d try to do some crust skiing after the warm sunny day yesterday. Didn’t get cold enough last night for a good off-trail crust to develop and called it after a couple minutes. Trail is rutted and icy, though I only explored a few hundred meters.

Evening
Firsthand: Freestyle
[ B skis ]
Icy and rutted. Mostly did double poling in the ice tracks and crust skiing off the trail. Crust skiing was pretty good with just a few softer areas. Coverage was pretty good throughout so once it warms up and softens there should be a window of good skiing I would think.

Grooming
[ Trails Open: All, Good skis ]
Highland groomed up pretty well this morning after a very warm weekend. Classic tracks have some icing spots but otherwise everything is very skiable.

Morning
Firsthand: Classic
[ Trails Open: All, Good skis ]
Tracks were in better shape than I thought they would be since I have not been here in four days. Sure they are shallow in spots, and the obvious washouts in the tight corners, and glazed over, but overall not a bad outing. Quite a few skaters were also flying around on the fast skate deck.

Afternoon
Firsthand: Classic
[ Trails Open: All, Good skis ]
Classic tracks are a bit washed out here and there; glazed for much of the course. Otherwise an alright ski. Need some snow. Very thin in spots but avoidable. Skate deck is hard-packed but didn’t seem icy.

Evening
Firsthand: Classic
[ Good skis ]
Decided to switch it up to classic with the cold weather. Skate might have been a better choice. Classic tracks were pretty worn away and hard to stay in. Skate deck looked good with some drifting in spots.

Afternoon
Firsthand: Classic
[ Good skis ]
Lots of skiers out on the trail. With the delay in the State HS meet, the Highland Park Ski team members were putting in a few pre K's. Good Luck! The classic trail was starting to get wind blown after 3 pm. Glad to get out before the cold arrives.

Very nice morning at H9 today. Other than some shallow tracks by the high school loop the tracks were in very good condition.
