Notes

Trails are on the golf course. Some nice hills but most of the course is pretty exposed. There is one back leg that is quite shaded and seems to hold snow long after the rest of the course loses it. Rentals at the chalet.

The groomers have done a fantastic job keeping Como up and running. The base for skate is thin, but easy to avoid the "brown spots". However, almost the entire trail is fully snow white. Also, kudos to grooming for expanding the skate base on the lefthand side to limit rutting on the corners. Overall, great conditions, no icing, clean trails, good conditions.

Grooming
[ Trails Open: All, B skis ]
The Como golf course cross country ski trail was groomed this morning. The base is very thin in spots. We could use some snow to help build up the trail base. Overall the trail is in good shape with a few grass blades in a couple places. The classic track was not set today because it is in good condition. Enjoy!

Wonderful night to get out and catch some snow. The Como grooming crew did a phenomenal job on the trails mixing up the fresh snow and breaking up the ice underneath. I never hit ice underneath the top layer and had decent glide the whole time. Everything was holding up easily even with 2 or 3 high school teams out there for practice in the afternoon. Classic tracks looked like they had been set and groomed (real ones) all the way around the course. A spot here or there where the tracks were a bit washed out but nothing that would hamper a good classic ski. Fingers crossed for continued cool weather and great trails ahead.

Thank you groomers! Novice skier checking in. It was a gorgeous day out on Como at the noontime hour. Classic tracks were ace, and I had a great time. There was one hill where the morning winds must've blustered the snow around unevenly; a short stretch of the tracks were filled powder, followed by a short stretch of patchy grassy snow. Overall, I'd say 97% of the course was perfect!

The Como golf course cross-country ski trail was groomed this morning. The freshly fallen snow allowed us to lay down a beautiful corduroy today. A fresh classic track was set as well. Enjoy!

Very nice conditions at Como early this morning. Groomer was heading out as I left. Hard to tell what the conditions were like in the dark under 1.5" of fresh snow, but the skate lane was firm and level and I never hit dirt, grass or a cart path. A shallow track was visible throughout under the fresh snow.

I skated several full laps at Como between 12:30pm and 2:30pm. No trails had been groomed there since the overnight snow (neither skate deck nor classic tracks). Fewer than expected number of Nordic skiers out, maybe due to the colder temps. Some hills had ice under the fresh snow. There are a few skate deck patches with minimal snow coverage, but they are avoidable.

It was a bit rough classic skiing today. No bare patches, which was awesome. However the weather has made it pretty rough. A lot was blown over and drifty. What made it really tricky is that any patches that weren’t blown over, were really icy. This made for a bit of a treacherous slow/fast change. There was in particular one downhill that was just completely unsafe. It was glare ice, really hard to get any edge.

-4F when I hopped on the trail a little after 1:00 PM. I wasn't sure where I was going to classic ski today; I thought everything would be boilerplate. Thanks to the Como groomers, that wasn't the case. I stayed on the loop where the start/finish area is (1.3K for the loop). Most of this loop had reset classic track! I was using universal klister on my B skis, but I might have been okay with a hard polar wax. The tracks were fantastic, and I appreciate how the long southern section runs close to the woods (thus, the nickname: the glacier, since it is in the shade and lasts late into the season). Kudos, Como groomers!
