Trail Detail
Notes
A great mix of beginner and expert ski trails. With the inclusion of the Jerry Jolly Trails there is about 25 km groomed for skating and classic. There is also an additional 15 km of classic only trails. With views of Lake Superior and the Apostle Islands, this is a very scenic area to ski. There is a nice lodge which sells snacks and food as well as a ski patrol and small downhill area.Upcoming Events

The trail crew groomed the skate lanes on Abbey to the cabin, Jolly Long, Anchor, and Seagull to the summit. Last night the crew reset classic tracks on Sugarbush, Oppedahl's, Jolly, and the Classic Connector - Jolly to Abbey. Everything should ski reasonably today, with about 1/2 inch of new snow, making it so even the ungroomed trails shouldn't be too icy. Near the trailhead, a lot of the classic tracks had blown in overnight, but back in the woods they should ski pretty well.

It was in the 40s with no glide. Tracks were solid and reliable. Snow was softening, of course. Classic skied 17.5 miles in 3 hours. Lots of big hill repeats. Basically ran 17.5 miles with classic skis on. Phenomenal kick strengthening ski! Someone snowmobiled over the flats section of tracks on Jerry Jolly. It was great for the weather Mother Nature handed us. Can't wait to ski it again Saturday! See you on the trails.

The skate decks on Abbey Rd., Northern Lights, upper Seagull to the summit, the Buzz and the Anchor system were groomed this morning. Deer Path, Sugarbush and Oppedahl's classic only trails were all groomed and re-tracked. Conditions are good. Due to the thaw freeze of the past couple days there is some crunchy snow in places.

Classic skied 15.77 miles in 1 hour 57 minutes. A lot of hillclimbs and quicker downhill sections. That makes 106 miles of hillclimbs and training for the classic full Birkie this past week on the trails. 94 miles of that was at Ashwabay. All I can say is the conditions were absolutely perfect every time. Every ski was phenomenal! And these new boots from New Moon felt amazing. No foot discomfort at all. I recommend you ski this as soon as you can.

I was hot waxing my skis with swix red when Birchlegger Bill texted me from the trail at Ashwabay at 9 am. He said its really foggy and starting to soften up. Classic skied 26.07 miles in 3 hours 25 minutes. The ski was focused on absolutely phenomenal long, medium and short hillclimbs with fairly fast manageable down hills. Absolutely gorgeous, serene 40 some km Birkie trainer. These groomers rock! You have to ski this! See you tomorrow. Kick and glide!

The Anchor system and Seagull skate decks were groomed this morning. Trail conditions are very good despite the warm temperatures. The alpine hill is closed today but nordic skiers are welcome to use the Chalet for warming and restrooms until 2pm today.

Abbey, Anchor and Seagull to the Summit skate lanes were all groomed this morning. The crew also put a social track in Abbey Rd. until the Ski Rd. junction. The tracks on either side are not intended for folks to follow a traffic pattern of skiing on the right, they're more so for folks to be able to ski together. But use them as you please!
