Trail Detail
Notes
A great mix of beginner and expert ski trails. With the inclusion of the Jerry Jolly Trails there is about 25 km groomed for skating and classic. There is also an additional 15 km of classic only trails. With views of Lake Superior and the Apostle Islands, this is a very scenic area to ski. There is a nice lodge which sells snacks and food as well as a ski patrol and small downhill area.Trail Reports

Most trails are groomed. Tracks are not set on all classic trails, some segments of named trails have skied in tracks, some segments of named trails have no tracks. Some named trails have not been opened up. Snow is soft in the tracks and on the skate deck. Looped the Northern Lights Trail for 36 km, excellent conditions! Hats off to the volunteer grooming staff for all their dedication! Excellent overall, with some segments in need of care. I challenge the groomers to keep a good 15 to 20 km groomed consistently so Birkie skiers can train as many days a week as possible. And maybe the possibility of a virtual birkie location.

Conditions are very good but a little soft from all the new snow. Great snow coverage. Skate and classic tracks were reset on Abbey Road, Northern Lights, and Jolly Long.

2-3 inches of new snow today after 8-12 last night. All the classic only trails have been packed and tracked. Abbey Road, Seagull, Anchor, top of Northern Lights, and Buzz have been groomed for skate and tracked. Conditions are very good for your best skis. The temps and weather looks great for the weekend.

We skied the Sugar Bush and Abbey Road trails. Classic tracks were very good to excellent. A few spots with grass showing under the pines, but overall a great time.

Excellent skate conditions. We did 6.5 km out past the Maple log cabin and around the back side (old Deer path) along Whiting Rd. All of it was excellent. Only one patch on one hill under some dense evergreens was nearly bare but easy to skate around.

2-3 inches new snow makes Good skiing conditions getting better. 15k Classic only trails were reset tonight. Thin spots remain under the evergreens but good coverage in general. A lot of smiles on faces to be skiing at last in such good conditions. The new skate/classic trail "The Buzz" is very popular for it's flowing 3.5K route to the top with a great view of Lake Superior.
Grooming plans: Tomorrow morning we are grooming 25K Skate/Classic trails.

Fantastic skiing at Mt. Ashwabay - lots of trail work over the summer made for amazing trails with the new snow. There are some small patches thin snow- otherwise coverage is great and the trails were amazing for classic intervals with a beautiful backdrop. For those of use without B skis - A skis worked just fine if you are willing to step out of the tracks once or twice. It was 24F with fine, fresh snow when I skied - used Rhode TLine VXPS and had an amazing kick.
