New Reports Report Requests

Notes

A great mix of beginner and expert ski trails. With the inclusion of the Jerry Jolly Trails there is about 25 km groomed for skating and classic. There is also an additional 15 km of classic only trails. With views of Lake Superior and the Apostle Islands, this is a very scenic area to ski. There is a nice lodge which sells snacks and food as well as a ski patrol and small downhill area.

If you're reading this, I'd grab the skis and head to Mt Ashwabay. The conditions are just that good. Classic skied 32 km. Tracks are still firm, grippy, and have glide. Violet swix wax was liquid fast at temps during my ski. Groomers regroomed and retracked Northern Lights and Buzz. Buzz is firming up nicely. Jerry's Long Loop is phenomenal, and with that said Anchor and Sugarbush clusters can't be beat. Watch out for grouse flushing on the side as I noticed four more this morning sunning themselves. So good, this ski can't be beat!

Conditions are outstanding up here at Mt Ashwabay. We reset tracks and cleaned up Skate lanes on Abbey Road, Northern Lights, and the Buzz. Watch out for drifiting on the Buzz at the Top of the old Tubing Hill.

Classic skied 30 km early this afternoon. Conditions were excellent! Firm tracks with an inch of windblown snow in most areas made for a medium fast and forgiving ski. Glide was great with violet swix wax, temperatures reached about 27. Kick was great on accents. Skate deck was icy hard for decents. Buzz is soft and drifted in areas. Flushed 5 rough grouse in different locations, they zig-zagged in front on the trail along the way. Superb spring ski! Thanks again groomers.

The skiing was incredible today at 1pm. Ashwabay has been taking their downhill groomer (a big Pisten Bully) out on the nordic trails the past few weeks to deal with the huge amounts of snow. The trails are in fantastic shape, firm and flat where the PB has passed, although there are a few soft segments were the big machine can't fit. New tracks were set on the whole system today, including Deer Path, and they look amazing too. Northern Lights from the cabin to the summit was the best it's ever been, and sunny too.

Quit your job, leave your family, come up and go skiing. Three feet of snow in the past two weeks. The only problem is the groomers can barely keep up. Stop reading Skinnyski and get in the car.

Classic skied 23 km today after work. The weather is very comfortable. Conditions were fabulous. Tracks are fast, firm and super reliable. Grip was awesome with skin skis. Skate decks are firm and Ashwabay groomers were out touching up the corduroy. Skiing was so good, if I didn't have to work at 5:45 AM tomorrow, I would have skied a 40 km. Thank you groomers!

We went out today and cleaned up a bit after a very heavy use weekend. Abbey Road, Jolly Long, The Buzz, Part of Anchor. The conditions are great and everything seems be setting up nice and firm. Yesterday the Piston Bully was out on some of the skate trails helping to set a nice firm deck. Some of the classic only trails were also redone. Sugarbush South Lower Sugar Bush, Seagull Classic, Anchor (not switchback), Anchor Powerline, Rollercoaster, Seagull, Northern Lights.

Classic skied 10 km today. Anchor, Sugarbush, Skid Road, Jolly connection, Abbey Road. Conditions are firming up nicely. Tracks and skate decks are fast and fun. The flats and gradual hills were perfect for a two day after Birkie leg wake up! A big thank you to the groomers for their dedication and awesome conditions so far this year. You gave me the opportunity to finish my 4th Classic 55 km Birkie with a personal best, 4:15, 14 minutes faster than past. Next year, hopefully I'm skiing for a 4 hour or less, with your help. Moreover, whether you know it or not the combination of this skinnyski platform, the Birkie, and your conditions these past 4 years have given me 4 + years of sobriety, something nothing else in this world was able to do, that is priceless. Thank you! Let the spring skiing begin!

[ Trails Open: Most, Good skis ]
After days of battling through monstrous snow drifts and swimming through snow we finally have some more skiable trails. Abbey Road, Skid Road and part of Jolly are well packed for skate. Groomed Wednesday with the LMC snow cat. The Anchor System was conquered yesterday. The rest has been trackpacked and dragged about 7-8 times but not done yet. The Backside of Jolly Long has not been touched from the Star Route connector to S. L. Sugarbush.

There is a tremendous amount of snow at Ashwabay and it is still snowing. Yesterday we flat dragged all of the skate/classic trails and today was too much for the drags. This morning we track packed Abbey Road, Northern Lights to the Summit, Seagull and the Anchor System. Two sleds are out on the classic only trails track packing. It is going to take a while before we have nice corduroy and tracks again.
