New Reports Report Requests

Notes

A great mix of beginner and expert ski trails. With the inclusion of the Jerry Jolly Trails there is about 25 km groomed for skating and classic. There is also an additional 15 km of classic only trails. With views of Lake Superior and the Apostle Islands, this is a very scenic area to ski. There is a nice lodge which sells snacks and food as well as a ski patrol and small downhill area.

Grooming
[ Trails Open: All, Good skis ]
We went out today and cleaned up a bit after a very heavy use weekend. Abbey Road, Jolly Long, The Buzz, Part of Anchor. The conditions are great and everything seems be setting up nice and firm. Yesterday the Piston Bully was out on some of the skate trails helping to set a nice firm deck. Some of the classic only trails were also redone. Sugarbush South Lower Sugar Bush, Seagull Classic, Anchor (not switchback), Anchor Powerline, Rollercoaster, Seagull, Northern Lights.

Classic skied 10 km today. Anchor, Sugarbush, Skid Road, Jolly connection, Abbey Road. Conditions are firming up nicely. Tracks and skate decks are fast and fun. The flats and gradual hills were perfect for a two day after Birkie leg wake up! A big thank you to the groomers for their dedication and awesome conditions so far this year. You gave me the opportunity to finish my 4th Classic 55 km Birkie with a personal best, 4:15, 14 minutes faster than past. Next year, hopefully I'm skiing for a 4 hour or less, with your help. Moreover, whether you know it or not the combination of this skinnyski platform, the Birkie, and your conditions these past 4 years have given me 4 + years of sobriety, something nothing else in this world was able to do, that is priceless. Thank you! Let the spring skiing begin!

Morning
Grooming
[ Trails Open: Most, Good skis ]
After days of battling through monstrous snow drifts and swimming through snow we finally have some more skiable trails. Abbey Road, Skid Road and part of Jolly are well packed for skate. Groomed Wednesday with the LMC snow cat. The Anchor System was conquered yesterday. The rest has been trackpacked and dragged about 7-8 times but not done yet. The Backside of Jolly Long has not been touched from the Star Route connector to S. L. Sugarbush.

There is a tremendous amount of snow at Ashwabay and it is still snowing. Yesterday we flat dragged all of the skate/classic trails and today was too much for the drags. This morning we track packed Abbey Road, Northern Lights to the Summit, Seagull and the Anchor System. Two sleds are out on the classic only trails track packing. It is going to take a while before we have nice corduroy and tracks again.

Birkie Fever! Classic skied about 30 some km this morning. Conditions are really good: firm tracks and skate decks, softening a bit with the warmer temperatures. Did notice a good amount of oak leaves strewn about as a result of the heavy winds we've had. The Buzz/Deer Path intersection has straight up leaf piles. All in all, a great ski! Thanks groomers!

Came to ski 20 km, the conditions were the best I've seen all year, so I skied 39 km. Tracks are "railroad tracks": deep, firm and consistent on all the trails, good kick and glide was fast with turquoise swix with a touch of purple. The skate deck looked firm with fresh corduroy, never had to step out of the tracks. Thank you groomers. Excellence!

After a great day on Friday, it snowed 3 inches Friday night. So skiing on Saturday and Sunday were both on ungroomed near virgin powder and very cold and slow. The Alpine area was fully groomed, newly so on both Saturday and Sunday. But alpine skiers love powder! It sure was a beautiful sunny day!

Skied Abbey Rd, then Northern Lights, then the Buzz (about 14 km in 68 minutes). Perfectly groomed corduroy, soft but not slow, and a winter wonderland. And hardly anyone out there.
