Yeah, so if artisan grooming were a thing, I would nominate the Blue Hills groomers. The base is a Goldilocks exquisite not too soft, not too hard, topped with smooth as bud-dah corduroy. Awesome edge control, and balance was as easy as it ever gets. Purr-fect 32 k skate today in ideal temps. Very good to excellent snow cover throughout. Other than some leaf litter in spots, the classic track looked great also. I would highly recommend that you treat yourself to a ski at the Blue Hills. Well done!

I was on the core loop plus one a side trail. Very good surfaces, great pole plants. I was skating but the classic track was well set and in good shape. Outlying trails were groomed in the afternoon.

Trails were great--any debris was easily to avoid. Skied to the high point and back, Classic tracks --well set.

Went for a quick skate ski out to roundabout, then back in on roller coaster and whitetail. Last night’s grooming of the skate deck was set up nicely, very firm and fast, despite the cold temps. Good coverage, the trails are getting better every day.

There is great skiing at the Blue Hills! I classic skied the first half of the core loop, shady way, and roundabout today. The core loop was very good, the track was in good shape, and the skate deck was firm. There was about an inch of new light snow, it was still snowing when I left mid afternoon. The other East side trails I skied were good, but a bit softer than the core loop- they have not been groomed as many times. Grooming plans: The groomers are heading out tonight before the cold moves in for the weekend.

Skied all the east side trails including those in the far east. All were nicely groomed. Base was well packed with just an occasional soft spot which is remarkable considering how young the snow is. I skied classic but the skate trails are well packed as well and quite inviting. Groomers have done a tremendous job. Snow depth is good so you can use your good skis. Definitely a premier trail system.

Evening
Grooming
[ Trails Open: Most, B skis ]
Skiing at the Blue hills is shaping up nicely! Most of the East side trails were groomed with the Tidd tech G2’s on Wednesday evening, resulting in a quite good form skate deck on Thursday morning. Thursday I groomed the more technical trails on the East side with a roller, and began rolling the west side via the connector trail from the East side. The East side core loop is in very good shape, with classic track set, and a nice firm skate deck. The other East side trails are in good shape, but may be a bit softer. The more technical trails: washout, rabbit, fox, and hairpin have only been rolled to start them setting up so we can get the bigger groomers out on them. They are skiable, but may be softer, and not quite as level. The West side is currently affected by a timber sale and the loggers are using about half the trail as a haul road. This should be done within a few days. Currently it is only accessible from the East side cut across, there is no groomed access at letter “A”. Two passes were made with the roller to begin firming up the base on the untouched trails for when the logging is done. Skiable, but soft, the East side is in much better shape. Overall snow cover is good, but there are occasional sticks on the trail from the big wind storm that recently came through. All East side trails are open and in good to very good shape except about 1k of otter slide, and about half of the west side is rolled.

Morning
Firsthand: Freestyle
[ Trails Open: Partial, B skis ]
The snow this morning was very slow as it was warm and wet. The many inches of snow had been groomed on a few trails, but with so much snow, it was very soft and not flat. It was a good workout, a hard ski with the grooming and conditions. The grooming is not a complaint, I know that they are looking to make the best trail for the future, so I am glad to have gotten out for a bit, and look forward to what they have in store!
