Afternoon
Firsthand: Freestyle Secondhand

The main loop is okay for skating. I hear they have been working hard to pack down the trails, but the skating was incredibly soft still. Very slow skating on the "outer trails.".

Trail is groomed for skate but not classic. Sally's classic trail wasn't yet groomed. Beautiful snow! Should be wonderful once the classic tracks are in!

I was in the ruts, but the skate lane looked as fantastic as the tracks. It appeared that there was low traffic in the tracks prior to nighttime hard freezing as the tracks were firm compacted fresh snow with no breakdown. Looks like the DNR groomers worked diligently and take pride in their work. Thank you to the Brule Valley DNR and Ski Club for year long efforts on this wonderful trail system.

Every trail was impeccably groomed. Best conditions I've skied on anywhere all year. Classic tracks looked good. Even the new trails far back were all newly groomed.

All skate decks had been groomed today and about half of the trails had a new classic track set. Excellent condition with very little debris. The snowshoe/fat bike trail was also groomed today.

The groomers did a great job after yesterday's snow. Beautiful skate everywhere and solid classic alongside! Thank you!

Skied a loop today at AH and conditions were very nice. The skate deck had firmed up by the afternoon as the temp dropped a little. There were some tracks from folks earlier that looked like they were probably sinking in a bit. My wife skied classic and the tracks were great.

Joanie and I classic skied about 75 percent of the trails, including Sally's Classic single track, on our first ever visit here. Lots of kilometers with mostly gently rolling terrain. Trails were groomed Monday and finished this morning and were in excellent condition. A very fun day while enjoying temps in the 20s. Thanks to the groomer for the great conditions!

I skated the 18K race route this evening. Most trails were groomed and tracked except Red Pine and Nebagamon. The skate deck was groomed on White Pine but not tracked. The new 2-3"of snow over the weekend has freshened up the trails greatly. Expect a firm skate deck on the recently groomed trails and a deep classic track. Sally's Classic hasn't been groomed since the new snow but I skied it on Sunday and the track was still firm.

With about 2-3 inches of fresh, powdery snow and temps around 20 degrees, the conditions were perfect. This was my first time on the Afterhours trails and I was very impressed! Signage was good, as were the maps (including the option to download to your phone); however, as a first-timer, I would have appreciated some small "you are here" dots on the abundant signs located out on the routes. That said, it's the only complaint I have. Trails were beautifully groomed and numerous enough that we felt like we had the woods all to ourselves. A lovely ski park.
