Trail Reports

2021-2022 season
Reports 1 to 10 of 41    Month: Mar | Feb | Jan | Dec
Wednesday, March 16, 2022
Afternoon
Firsthand: Freestyle
[ Trails Open: Most, Rock skis ]
Mostly skiable. Rock skis for sure as there are some bare spots. It's the worst near the parking lot and there won't be many more days of the spring skiing. Some trails I avoided and others I walked a tiny bit because there are patches.

Evening
Firsthand: Classic
[ Trails Open: All, Rock skis ]
No bare spots and skiable if you are not ready for the season to end. The fresh snow today was slow and sticky, but did not clump onto my fish scales. Under the snow it felt like a mixture of ice and slush. Many spots which look like they will be slushy and puddles soon. Skating looked like it would be hard work.

Afternoon
Firsthand: Freestyle
[ Trails Open: All, Rock skis ]
The trails are holding up and it is decent spring skiing: icy and quick in the shadows and a bit mushy but still fairly fast in the sunny areas. I didn't see any brown spots yet. The classic tracks also range from glazed/icy to mushy, depending, but they are still mostly evident.

[ Trails Open: All, Rock skis ]
The groomer made a few passes today on some of the trails, including Yin Yan down to the I loop. The surface has been scruffed up and a shallow cord was left behind. The desk softened by mid-afternoon and the skating was very good, but downhills in the shade were still hard and icy. Flyway was the best trail. The classic tracks were mostly damp and slow.

Afternoon
Firsthand: Freestyle
[ Trails Open: All, Rock skis ]
The rain and warmth yesterday turned the skating deck hard and icy, especially near the parking lot. It gets better farther out, but still have to be careful. The tracks are all ice: so easy double poling and the leaves have melted down below the surface.

Afternoon
Firsthand: Both
[ Trails Open: All, B skis ]
It looks like the groomer made some passes either today or yesterday. The skate deck has been scruffed up with a shallow cord left behind. At mid-afternoon the snow had softened and the skating was ok: could get an edge and the glide was good. The classic tracks are mostly glazed and icy: no kick but long glides from double poling.

Afternoon
Firsthand: Both
[ Trails Open: All, Good skis ]
Most of the trails were groomed this morning for skating. The hilly trails (Ruby's, etc) were not groomed but only have an inch of fresh snow on top of the previous cord. Good cord where it was groomed, ok skating were it wasn't. Some of the new deck is narrow after only one or two passes of the groomer. About one half of the classic tracks were reset today and are good. The ones not reset are serviceable.

Afternoon
Firsthand: Both
[ Trails Open: All, Good skis ]
As of noon all the trails had been groomed for skating. The deck is nice cord over the hard base. You can feel the boilerplate with your poles once in a while, but the new snow has everything covered nicely. He was grooming the Cheri and Bill skills areas. Classic tracks have been set on most of the trails. It's beautiful. The only drawback is the cold snow is slow.

Afternoon

[ Trails Open: All, Good skis ]
No grooming today of the 3" of new snow. There were a handful of skaters who had gone around some of the trails.

By late morning the exposed trails had softened, but in the shade the boiler plate surface was still hard to get an edge. Please contact EC County Parks and Forests division to encourage more grooming.
