New Reports Report Requests

Notes

The trail system consists of approximately fifteen miles of groomed trail and another ten of ungroomed backcountry routes. The more advanced trails are located north and west of Levis on Trow Mound, while intermediate and easy trails lay near the base of Levis Mound. All groomed trails are set with diagonal tracks and a skating lane averaging 12 feet wide. Depending on snow conditions, the trail is generally groomed twice per week. Trail passes are required. Facilities include a new cross-country ski chalet, running water, mens and womens bathrooms.

Levis has been groomed as much as possible with shallow tracks for striding and a gritty skate deck. There are occasional bare spots that can be avoided.

Kudos to awesome grooming! Did west and east Levis. Tracks were setting up great. A few spots with sandy dirt mixed in. Very enjoyable outing. Pretty thin base, pray for more snow! Perfect snow conditions today, firm but just loose enough for good traction going down hills on the fresh cord.

Conditions at Levis are the best since the foot of snow blessed three days in December. There is good coverage in the rails with only a couple dirt spots and the skate deck is firm while also providing secure manuvering.

Logging is still going on, but we classic skied the west part today and to the closure on moundbounder. All five of us were happy with conditions. Yes there’s some leaves and sticks, but that’s how most of WI is due to lack of snow. We were all very happy, even with the closures, we had enough area to ski a six mile loop. Skate skiers seemed like they were enjoying trails too. Thanks always to the groomers, one was out clipping branches when we skied past them.

Lots of logging have closed off the outer loop. There were several bare spots. I wouldn't recommend skiing there this year.

Fair to good. Classic tracks are deep, firm, and glazed for nice speed without too much work. However, too frequently there are clumps of grass and dirt poking through that require a quick foot lift or step out. Bad Bear and Test Track are in the best condition. The skating deck looks very good with significantly fewer debris issues. There is not enough snow to support snow plowing, so hills and turns were problematical for me. All in all, a good choice for first ski of year, but Central Wisconsin needs snow.

Skating is good, but the classic tracks show bare ground in spots. Part of the system has been groomed, but logging has caused trail closure on Flatlander and nearby trails.

Good snow cover, but because of equipment issues the trails are not groomed, just rolled. I was able to set track with my skis on Test Track through West Levis and around. Hopefully, the groomer tells us, they can machine groom tomorrow.

The groomers were out on the trail and made significant improvements. I skated Moun Bounder via Bad Bear on my best skis and had no problems for a good share of the journey. After a while there were occasional sticks and dirt clods, but these could be easily avoided. Later I took out my new Rossis for a shorter run on the safest trails and had no problems. It was "winter wonderland.".

The trails have been groomed and are firming up. Tracks are pretty good for classical skiing, but there are some rough spots with ground poking through on Flatlander, particularly where there was clear cutting. However, the trail is still very skiable.
