Tuesday, April 20, 2021
Afternoon
Firsthand: Classic

Swedetown lives again! 2” of sticky new snow. No grooming, a few skied in tracks, and plenty of rocks. It was nice to be out. A bluebird day.

Firsthand: Classic

The road goes ever on at Swedetown, though we're down to the dregs. 200 meters of decent snow on the Valley trail, with only one portage. Nice and firm at 35 degrees, no track, but skied pretty well.

Firsthand: Both
[ Trails Open: Partial, Rock skis ]
Valley trail completely covered from trailhead to Cedar, about 0.4 mile, with one portage. You could actually use B skis except for this. There are a couple of narrow areas that will probably open tomorrow. I went at 50 F after some rain, and the skate deck was firm, with the classic track gone. I tried skating, but, being wet and dirty, it was painfully slow. Classic went much better, especially after I polished a track with a few throughs. Snow is deep enough to last, with an increasing number of portages.

Swedetown groomed this morning and the skiing was sweet. One long bare spot on Greenstone. Very nice on Valley. Tomorrow may be the last day.

Morning
Firsthand: Freestyle
[ Trails Open: Most, B skis ]
Fantastic spring ski conditions this morning - before 11am it rivaled mid-winter, with temps in the upper teens, fresh 1-2” of snow groomed and with a nice flat deck. Only a couple of areas in the pines were thin/iced hence the B rating. Will be out again early tomorrow for what may be the last hurrah!

Grooming
[ Trails Open: Most, Rock skis ]
15km of trails groomed this morning, skate lane only. Tracks are shallow but skiable. Part of Greenstone and the end of Powderhouse make up a new end of season only loop. Mama and B.

Evening
Firsthand: Both
[ Trails Open: Most, B skis ]
Trails are ice with a half-inch powder on top, and quite skiable. Fair conditions. Grooming has ended, but there's a reasonably deep classic track most places and skate lane is level. Good kick and good edging. A few places are thin and/or narrow, but you can easily pick your way. Should last a few more days.

Morning
Firsthand: Freestyle
[ Trails Open: Most, Rock skis ]
The trails seemed to hold up well despite the warmer temps yesterday and overnight, some had been recently groomed (overnight?). The snow is very dirty in many areas, especially under pine trees. Very few burnouts and didn't see any exposed rocks. B skis could likely be used if careful, but some areas of dirty snow are hard to avoid.

Morning
Firsthand: Classic
[ Trails Open: Most, Good skis ]
With three inches of new snow overnight, skiing was excellent today. Classic tracks were perfect. Skied outbound on Pineridge Loop and then did Greenstone Loop with return by Valley Trail. All excellent.

Afternoon
Firsthand: Classic
[ Trails Open: Most, Good skis ]
New snow overnight and good grooming, including fresh track set for classic, made for fine skiing today. A few thin spots are easily avoided, with no risk of damage to the good skis I used. Powderhouse is the only loop not groomed.
