Trail Reports

Reports 1 to 8 of 8    Month: Jan
Friday, January 19, 2024
Evening
Firsthand: Freestyle
[ Trails Open: All, B skis ]
There is fair coverage on the trails, even with the lack of snow. The skate deck was hard and fast, with a dusting of new snow. I skied all of the trails without any major issues. If you are out on the trail, please pick up the twigs and sticks that you come across. Deep Woods had fair coverage, but lots of sticks and deer tracks.

[ Trails Open: All, B skis ]
Paul was grooming as we started our ski at 2:30 pm and was still at it as of 4:00 pm. Skate deck is firm with a few softer stretches, but most of what we skied was pretty good especially considering the little snow we've had. Some leaves, twigs and other debris in places but not at all an issue. Speed was pretty good for the ambient temperature (about 8F) and the snow being somewhat colder given the much colder temps of the previous days.

Evening
Firsthand: Freestyle
[ Trails Open: All, B skis ]
The trails are in fair condition. There is a mix of snow that fell over the weekend and dirty snow that has blown and drifted in. I did the Whispering Pines loop along with Finland, which was in better shape than I had heard from others. There was plenty of snow coverage, with a few sticks and twigs from the wind.

Firsthand: Freestyle
[ Trails Open: Most, B skis ]
Thanks to Mark the groomer the trails are in pretty good shape, especially given the limited snowfall we've had out here. Some rougher patches that are soft and/or uneven but few problems with dirt or twigs. Many sections ski nicely. Great to be out despite the 5F temperatures.

Evening
Firsthand: Freestyle
[ Trails Open: Most, B skis ]
The trails were in good condition for the first grooming. Andes and Marc deserves some kudos for this. All the trails looked to be open, though I ran out of daylight and didn't ski them all. I did most of the main Whispering Pines loop and I threw some twigs and branches off the trail along the way.

Morning
Grooming Scheduling
[ Trails Open: Most, Rock skis ]
Trails will open tomorrow for skating. All trails have been packed full width skating. Finland and Deep woods are very thin snow cover with some leaves and branches in trail. Have fun.

Afternoon
Observation
[ Trails Open: Most ]
First, trails have been groomed but we've no idea what the percentage of the system has been attended to, so the "Trails Open" figure could be misleading. Trail conditions are very thin and soft, if skating you will "sweep" away to gravel. Accordingly we did not ski, preferring instead to allow the trails to set up overnight. Hopefully more description tomorrow.

Evening
Firsthand: Classic
[ Trails: Closed, Rock skis ]
Trails had around 4 inches of fluffy snow on them but no grooming yet. I classic skied the outer loop and found only a couple areas with big branches covering the trails. Hopefully they can throw down a base groom soon!
