Trail Reports

2021-2022 season
Reports 50 to 56 of 56    Month: Mar | Feb | Jan | Dec
Thursday, December 30, 2021
Afternoon
Firsthand: Freestyle
[ Trails Open: All, Good skis ]
Coverage is quite good, so good skis can be used. Skate deck is somewhat soft but not too bad. Slower today as the snow is still cold from yesterday's and last night's sub-zero temperatures. Classic tracks are great condition, and in some place were faster (double poling) than skating. Although recently groomed the trails have seen considerable traffic for this venue. A roughly 2-300 meter section of the main trail, Whispering Pines, the runs along the west side of Cranberry Bog is heavily marred by (human) footprints. These affect both the skate deck and the classical tracks. Other places the trail was firm enough so that the walker(s) had minimal impact, except raising my blood pressure!

Afternoon
Firsthand: Freestyle
[ Trails Open: All, B skis ]
Newly groomed after a couple of inches of new snow. Skate deck is somewhat firm in most places but there are a few softer spots. Coverage is good. Tracks have been set on some trail sections, but not all. Snowing quite hard as we finished (2:30).

Morning
Firsthand: Freestyle
[ Trails Open: All, B skis ]
Arrived at 9 am and it was already 35F. Initial 40 minutes were fine to ok, the last 40 minutes were not so good. Temperature was about 40F when I finished. The snow was quite wet, even in the shaded sections. More leaves and sticks. A few bare spots beginning to show.

Afternoon
Firsthand: Freestyle
[ Trails Open: All, B skis ]
Conditions this afternoon were essentially the same as reported yesterday, the only difference was the snow water content was greater owing to temperatures hovering around freezing. Trails have seen somewhat more traffic, and a few more leaves and sticks appearing. Coverage remains good and the skiing continues to be quite nice.

Afternoon
Firsthand: Freestyle
[ Trails Open: All, B skis ]
Good skiing today. Skate deck firmer than yesterday but not super firm. Everything is groomed and corduroy intact in sections. No tracks yet. A few more sticks and leaves but absolutely not a problem.

Afternoon
Firsthand: Freestyle
[ Trails Open: Most, B skis ]
We arrived as the trails were being groomed (1 pm) after another 2-3 inches of new snow fell since yesterday. We tried to ski mostly on the un-groomed sections as the newly groomed skate deck hadn't yet set up and was somewhat soft. B ski suggested. The fierce winds brought a few more sticks and leaves to the trail, but still not bad. Nearly everything had been groomed when we left.

[ Trails Open: Most, B skis ]
Surprising good conditions and coverage given the little snow we received. Reasonably firm skate deck. Virtually all trails are open, the only one not groomed of which I am aware is the Chuckwagon cutoff. Not very many sticks or leaves either. Skate only at this point, not enough snow to set tracks. First time out today and fun.
