Morning
Firsthand: Freestyle
[ Trails Open: All, Good skis ]
Skate deck on the east side of the main trail (Whispering Pines), and associated shortcuts etc. has firmed up, so I didn't encounter any soft spat as I did yesterday. Still lots of corduroy. The west side was quite a different story. The deck remains softer, skiable but earlier skate tracks are sometimes up to 6 inches deep. Hi 20s when I left before noon. Nice skiing today.

Trails were recently groomed and are in excellent shape. This morning there was still good corduroy, and intact in places. Relatively firm skate deck mostly everywhere, but there are some soft spots as reported in days past. There are also some "hollow" spots where you might lose a couple inches of your pole. A fellow skier reported Deep Woods was narrow and soft. Classic tracks are well defined and similarly firm.

First skier out on freshly groomed trails. Excellent conditions. A few soft spots but that's to be expected after a foot of snow. Kudos to the grooming crew. A bit slow in spots but again due to lots of snow that was not completely packed.

[ Trails Open: All, Good skis ]
Arrived late morning to find very mixed conditions for skating. Warm temperatures overnight and into the early morning (25+F) combined with the sun meant that much of the trails I skied were slogs with wet snow bordering on slush. The dirty snow exacerbated melt because of decreased reflectivity (albedo). Some short, shaded sections were just ok as these were somewhat glazed. Poked my nose into Finland and turned around as the east side was drifted in with the dirty snow and I have no glide whatsoever. Classic tracks are getting pretty shallow. Getting back to the car around 12:30 the temperature had fallen to 19F.

Recently groomed, but the snow is very dirty owing to the high wind yesterday and continuing today. While this meant somewhat slower conditions considering the temperatures (high teens), surprisingly many sections skied pretty well. Otherwise the skate deck is generally hard with a veneer of up to about an inch of "snirt.".

Due to high winds Andes alpine was closed today. Trails have not been groomed. The first 3-4 block are icy or drifted making it challenging to get to the good sections in the woods. The inner trails that were protected from the high winds were covered with a dusting to 1/2 in. of snow. Very skiable but very slow due to the new dry and cold snow. The classic track had anything from a dusting to several inches of snow in them.

Nicely groomed trails all around with a firm and fast skate deck and minimal drifting in spots. The wider trails are a nice feature.

Skate deck is hard and glazed-to icy in sections with corduroy visible here and there. Fast, but I had difficulty setting an edge in many places and my skis were "squirrelly," or maybe just me as I've not skied for a week and half. Wind was picking up and blowing snow when I left.

Skate deck was very nice. Firm and fast considering the new cold snow that was groomed in yesterday. The classic track that I used was hard and fast.

Freshly groomed trails all around with a firm and fast skate deck. A beautiful day, slightly cold, but at least no wind.
