Despite warm temps, very good skiing at Rock Lake on Wed. We did the 16k plus the 2k Rock Lake loop. There is plenty of snow, though the short loop has some shallow spots and some icy areas under the pines. Changing temps make the hills challenging with fast followed by soft snow. There is enough snow to keep decent skiing for at least a few more days.

Headed out to ski assuming we’d have to break trail and make our own tracks. What a treat to find excellent grooming around the 16k loop! This beautiful single track classic trail system is a true gem of NW WI, especially when conditions are good like they were today. Thanks for the grooming.

Rock lake received roughly 5-6" of fresh snow yesterday and it was worked into the trail this morning. Everything groomed up beautiful, except for a few icy spots out on the Rock Lake loop. Thanks to our volunteer Jerome coming out and lending us a hand. The morning skiing is good, so get out there and grab what you can!

Thanks groomers! All trails are groomed and tracked after a five inch snow (or more) and very skiable on this day in the mid-teens. I skied the 7 k trail and found it in great condition.

Rock Lake received about 2 inches of snow overnight. Thanks to Tom for volunteering and helping get the trail groomed today. The tracks overall are in good shape. On Rock Lake loop the tracks are shallow and crumbly in places. The trail was getting a lot of use when we were finishing up. Enjoy this beautiful weather!

It was fun to ski on the four k trail late in the day. Because of the warm weather my waxless skis had great grip on the uphills and slow descent on the downhills, but skiing on the freshly groomed trails was still a joy.

Rock Lake received about 2 inches of new snow. We groomed and set tracks on all loops early today. Should be a gorgeous day to go check out the classic trail! Happy Birkie week!

Are you looking for a fun "old school" classic ski trail close to Cable? Check out the Rock Lake trail system. Our volunteer groomers (Jerome and Tom) stepped in to make sure Rock Lake was looking good and ready to go for the weekend. Come on out and enjoy your National Forest.

Excellent condition, well groomed. Plenty of hills, good temperature. This trail is quite remote, came across it by accident, a happy mistake.

Quickly skied the 2k loop. Fantastic tracks. Great glide. We braved -13 below and it was still an amazing ski. This is one of the best classic trails in Northern Wisconsin. Groomers do a wonderful job.
