Skied about 10K round trip up and back the Onion River Road. Perfect conditions for the Fischer Crown (fishscale) skis before the rain arrived late this morning. Such a deal for the the last day of April. The snow was getting dirty and sticks and debris were emerging as the recent snow has melted. Thanks to groomers for the firm base from earlier in the season that made for good skiing this past week and for moving most of the windfall trees off the trail.

I followed good skied in tracks to the end of Onion River Road. 41° . Fun ski, good grip with fish scales. Wet snow did not stick at all but actually lubricated my glide. Is this picture the windy city or gate to Onion River Road?

Deep and crusted snow. Trails not rolled, Onion River Road almost to end and parallel L-M route tracked from several skiers. Lost and found report: a good pair of lobster gloves are in the middle of the gravel Onion River Rd, part-way up to the trail head lot. Just starting to snow.

Classic skied from the Briton Peak trailhead, Hogback, Homestead, and Bridge Run loops. Ample deep snow is firm in the cold and covered with 2 inches of fresh snow. Skiing is slow, and I set some skier classic tracks over one other set of skate tracks. I feared water over the trail but there was none. Lots of branches and a few obstructive downed trees, but as long as these temps stay down, the skiing will remain very worthwhile, although grooming on anything but ORR is over for the year. May be back tomorrow for a Picnic jaunt.

Fantastic conditions this morning on freshly groomed packed powder. We still have a solid 18-24" packed base and only the Onion River road section of trail system is being groomed at this point in the season. Jake and I used our wooden skis with Extra Blue kick wax. Perfect.

Was glad to have a chance to ski my beloved Sugarbush and Picnic loop in mid April after being absent for all of an epic March. Although grooming on anything but the Onion River Road has ceased for a week or so, it got cold and snowed which firmed up the deck and made for a nice slow classic ski, breaking trail through 2 inches of new snow. The trail was littered with tree debris and many downed trees obstructed the trail but all were easy to get around and only two were at the bottom of hills that required a snowplow stop. From Oberg trailhead, I skied around the Picnic loop, hogback and homestead and back. Took a long time but the fresh snow on the trees was beautiful and for April it was fantastic ski.

30° at 8:30 a. m on Oberg road. I skied to end of Onion River road, under tree. Classic tracks were deep and firm, though glazed over. To my surprise I had a decent grip with fish scales, glide was fast. On way out my outer boot kept grabbing track because of frosting/crusting. It was great on way back though after about 6 skiers going other way seemed to smooth it out, plus the warming up. Definitely spring skiing but it still was a fun ski. A few pine branches down from storm. I encountered about a dozen skiers out today.

Classic skied the Onion River Rd this morning, and the classic tracks are holding up quite well. Skate lane looked fairly nice also, maybe getting a bit chewed up here and there. A foggy day kept temps just a bit below freezing this morning so the tracks were pretty fast. Vauhti universal klister was superb for both kick and glide.

I skied the Picnic Loop from Oberg lot. Amazing that it looked like the middle of winter still. I skied in about 1.5" of fresh snow in the tracks since last grooming. I had a good grip with waxless fish scales and a decent glide too. I did not encounter ice on this loop, it was about 33° and slightly sticky. There was a little less snow in pines coming back on connector loop and some minor ice in tracks. All in all, it was a very fun ski. I finished just before dark.

Started at the Oberg lot and headed out toward the Picnic loop. There was 1.5-2" of fresh snow on the tracks from yesterday (no new grooming Sunday night). The deck was a little crispy, but the snow on top was sticky and stayed in place. The ups and downs were all in great condition, though a few hills on the SW part of the black diamond stretch had some troughs (on ups and downs). The only stretch that seemed thin at all was on the connector near Leveaux Mountain. Nothing problematic, it was just a markedly different amount of snow than everywhere else. One of the uphills between I and J had a new tree down across the trail (that had come down this morning). Beautiful ski, with the snow caked on all the branches and so much depth on the deck. Crazy that it's April!
