About one mile rolled nothing groomed. Water everywhere. Thin ice that breaks as you ski across. Was on birches and maples.

[ Trails: Closed ]
The groomers report says the trails are closed to preserve the base as warm temps and rain in the forecast.

Today I skied the Birches trail to junction 117 where I continued onto the Maples trail, which I took to 107 where I rejoined Birches. Overall impression is that the trails are skiable but are deteriorating rapidly under the warm temps. Birches still had good cover but was pretty littered with leaves. Maples was OK at the far north west end but becomes more difficult later on, with large sections blown through to dirt. Definite rock ski conditions, still enjoyable if you imagine it to be mid-March. This system is a nice gem in the area, well-maintained and cared for.

Conditions remained great at the camp with the icy base holding up well against the warm air. The top of the skate deck was soft on top of the ice which made for fast and stable skis. All of Birches and all of the hilly sections of Maples were skiing great. The parts of Oaks I skied on also were great but I didn't ski the whole track. Fingers remain crossed for the many warm days this week. I would avoid Per's loop now, lots of dirt, sticks, leaves, and grass showing through.

With thanks to some tremendous grooming there are long stretches of The Oaks and The Maples Trails that offer mid-winter conditions for skating, particularly the hill sections. The pics are from The Oaks and The Maples. To be sure, there is some oak leaf clutter to manage, but worth the effort. Carpe Skiem!

The groomers at the camp are doing a great job with the snow we have. Despite some oak leaves here and there the skate deck is in pretty good shape.

The Brown County Parks Department reports the trails are "poor". I gladly take these poor trails; I would say they were pretty darn good for the amount of snow. Due to the thin snow there is no classic track set. I skied the Oak, Maple and part of the Birch Trails. The major problem is oak leaves on the trail (there is a reason they call it the Oak Trail). There are a few thin spots and a bit of ice, especially on the outer section of the Maple Trail. All of these issues can be avoided with a little maneuvering. There are lots of areas with nice, clean, solid packed snow.

Better skating than expected. Trail was re-combed mid morning yielding poor to good conditions. Rated poor only due to areas where both excess leaf and twig litter requires navigation. Carpe Skiem!

Amazing fun for skaters! Very firm conditions, not icy, able to easily catch an edge...fast and fun freestyling! Some woods debris in a couple of spots that were easily navigated. Thank you groomers. I skied at dusk and then finished under the lights. The lighted Loop was very nice. Carpe Skiem!

More grooming last night and this morning plus the cold means the trails have firmed up and are skiing for skating really nicely now. I skied Birches and the hilly parts of Maples. There seems to have been both more work on downed trees and flik-a-stik by skiers, it was much clearer today. Skied in tracks on Birches looked OK in places. There was a rolled place to ski classic left on Maples but there had been no takers yet.
