Trail Reports

Reports 1 to 10 of 12    Month: Feb | Jan
Sunday, February 18, 2024
Morning
Firsthand: Freestyle
[ Trails Open: Most, Rock skis ]
Skating done from golf course to 15 km mark. Frequent debris and thin coverage. Classic tracks were shallow or filled with leaves. Definitely recommend rock skis although the trail is passable.

Morning
Firsthand: Freestyle
[ Trails Open: Most, Rock skis ]
Skied the golf course and out to the 10 K marker. The trail is undulating with some dirt and leaf spots poking through. Decent skiing in many areas but in other areas you have to ski around the bad spots. The classic tracks looked nice in some places but were down to grass and leaves in other places.

Afternoon
Firsthand: Freestyle
[ Trails Open: Most, B skis ]
Skied the golf course and out to the 6 K mark. The skate lane was a little soft in places and had a few places where dirt or leaves were visible but pretty easy to ski around those spots. Most areas do not have a classic track, and where there was a track it was not very good. The trail is groomed from the golf course to Symth Rd.

Grooming
[ Trails Open: Partial, B skis ]
Rolled, combed, and dragged the trail from the golf course to the Old 32 parking lot. Skate lane has good coverage in most areas. Classic tracks set around beginners loop only, they are good in places and poor in other places with leaves and grass in thin areas. More grooming planned for Friday.

Afternoon
Firsthand: Both
[ Trails Open: Most, Good skis ]
Trails were groomed as well as it could be for the amount of snow, hats off to the groomers. Classic tracks were a little soft because of the warm temps, and the skate deck was mildly frustrating because of soft spots, and snowmobile tracks running nearly the entire length of the trail now. Overall, still very enjoyable, with a little debris. Heading out again on Wednesday.

Morning
Firsthand: Freestyle
[ Trails Open: All, B skis ]
Report on trail from golf course to Smyth Road (0–17 K). The first 6K, including big hills behind golf course, had occasional dirt, which could be avoided. The surface was undulating with occasional soft pole plants at the edge. Classic tracks were present throughout and appeared good. Although not skied, the trail appeared groomed beyond 17K. The trail system needs more snow. Overall, fair-to-good today.

[ Trails Open: All, B skis ]
A very pretty day to ski, blue skies, white snow and full sun. Skied the golf course and out to the 9 K mark including the big hills behind the golf course. The skate deck was very firm but undulating with some dirt or leaf spots but easy to avoid. Classic tracks looked solid.

Afternoon
Firsthand: Classic
[ Trails Open: All, B skis ]
Skied from golf course (east side of loop) to approximately 8K mark. The tracks on the golf course were partially or completely filled with windblown snow in spots. The skate deck was a good alternative in those spots. In the forest, the tracks were better defined, but may have had some fallen snow and also some tree debris in them. There again, I used the skate deck in some spots. The skate deck looked OK except for bare ground peeking through in many spots. The grooming didn't look fresh, but they may be waiting for new snow to work with. Overall, it was pretty and enjoyable, but slower for classic skiing. B skis recommended.

Skied from the golf course out to the Old 32 trailhead. Good skate conditions with a firm and fast but undulating base. Some small spots of dirt or leaves but pretty easy to avoid. Classic tracks looked solid.

Firsthand: Classic
[ Trails Open: Most, Good skis ]
We were greeted with fresh tracks and plenty of new, cold snow at Lakewoods this morning. Under a beautiful blue sky we classic skied from the Old 32 parking lot north to Smyth Road and back. There is a 6-10" base on the skate deck. Though cold and slow, we appreciated the groomers handiwork. Carpe Skiem!
