Trail Reports

2019-2020 season
Reports 51 to 58 of 58    Month: Mar | Feb | Jan | Dec | Oct

Afternoon
Firsthand: Freestyle Secondhand
[ Trails Open: Most, Good skis ]
Trails are in mid-season pristine shape. Great coverage and no ice. I was pleasantly surprised and the mild temperatures put the icing on the cake. Some spotty leaf coverage in some spots. Classic tracks were solid and clean and good comments from classic skiers. This area got a pile of snow and used a pay loader to remove snow from Old Hwy 32 parking lot.

[ Trails Open: Most, Good skis ]
Many skiers took advantage of excellent conditions today. I classical skied. The track could not have been better. I asked what other skiers thought about the skate lane. Nice and firm, like midwinter conditions and this is fantastic, were just a few. Volunteers will be out most of next week clearing downed timber with the hope to have most or all of the north end groomed by the weekend.

Afternoon
Firsthand: Classic Observation
[ Trails Open: Partial, B skis ]
Wow. Great midwinter conditions with full depth tracks set. Really could use "A" skis but there were a few sticks in the tracks, easily avoided. Great grooming and very controllable snow, so even the big hills behind the golf course (Blue Loop), while still thrilling, were not treacherous (going counterclockwise). The only part open off the old 32 parking lot was the "beginner loop" and spur to the golf course side. Trails are not yet well marked but maps are available. Thanks to groomers, it appears they have already started the process of grooming the remainder of the trail system.

Grooming
[ Trails Open: Partial, Good skis ]
We've been working on the trails for the last 5 days. We were able to take the PB out tonite. Trail is open from golf course to Old 32 Parking lot. This includes the hills behind the golf course. The parking lot at old 32 is now open. Also the golf course parking lot is plowed. Between the two storms Lakewood has gotten 19" of snow so we have a good base. We will continue to work next week to get to the north end.

Firsthand: Freestyle
[ Trails Open: Partial, Good skis ]
I skied the golf course loop and into the blue and green sections along with the violet cut off. The groomers were out working hard to get the trails ready for the weekend. The trails are in midwinter condition. They were firmer than I anticipated! I can't say that the entire system is ready but the area I skied was primo! It's a winter wonderland up here! The volunteers that take care of this trail should surely be thanked for their efforts, especially after last summers storm and the early season snow fall! No small task!

Groomed the Golf course and trail to the Old 32 parking lot. Skate deck is good, tracks are set. Best to park at golf course because the Old 32 parking lot is not yet plowed.

Afternoon
Grooming
[ Trails Open: Partial, Rock skis ]
We are working to clear downed trees that earlier high winds and last weekends heavy snow brought down. At this time about 20% of the trail is rolled but, not skiable. Piston Bully should be out as soon as tomorrow or Thursday.

Grooming
[ Trails: Closed, Bare ground ]
Fall cleanup is complete. Terrible July winds brought down many trees onto our trail system. Some blowdowns were 6 to 10 feet high and ran for hundreds of feet. Thanks to many volunteers and weeks of work. Our trails are now cleared, mowed and ready for snow.
