2019-2020 season

Morning
Firsthand: Freestyle
[ Trails Open: Partial, B skis ]
Volunteer groomer went out and combed up W and Y with the ginzu. It was fast with good control. Some sections of the deck were a little uneven which forced me to work on technique but other sections were great and a joy to ski on. Still not a lot of debris on trails and no ice-pack.

Skied B, C, Z and H trails. Groomed earlier but an inch or so fresh powder on top. Great classic condition temp 20-24F. Tried skating - too slow not fun.

Afternoon
Firsthand: Both
[ Trails Open: Most, Good skis ]
A couple inches of fresh, sticky snow made for a slow yet enjoyable outing. As they were yesterday, some trails were not groomed but coverage was great on all trails we tried regardless of how recently they had been groomed.

It's always fun to be back at the Valley Spur. Skate decks on all trails except C, G, Z we're refreshed. Classic tracks re-set only on A and B. Still a beautiful day at one of my favorite trail systems.

Grooming
[ Trails Open: All, Good skis ]
The current warm weather has had little negative effect on our trails. We are in the Spring skiing freeze/thaw cycle and that means fast skiing even after some grooming. We do have a very deep base that is 24 inches or more throughout the system. Tons of great skiing yet to be had! Skating is especially good with a flat and firm deck. Come check it out!

We received another somewhat unexpected 2 inches of snow overnight so we rolled and set tracks on all trails again this morning. 16 degrees and full sun at noon. Beautiful conditions.

Morning
Firsthand: Classic
[ Trails Open: All, Good skis ]
Excellent conditions with a dusting of lake effect snow. Skate deck is solid with good pole plants. Great classic skiing with the light fresh snow. Slower speeds on the big hills with the cold fresh snow. Look for great conditions through the weekend.

It’s been along time since we’ve skied at valley spur and we forgot how beautiful it was especially the river trail. We also forgot how challenging some of the bigger hills were and refresh our memory pretty fast. But it was a beautiful day to ski with light snow coming in by the afternoon the sun was shining.

Afternoon
Firsthand: Classic Secondhand
[ Trails Open: All, Good skis ]
Two inches of new snow fell today, and it was snowing hard at 4:30 when we left the parking lot. From talking with skiers in the shelter who had skied yesterday and today the conditions were much better today. Plenty of snow but the conditions were tricky. Skiing was slow due to the new snow but on occasion as you went down a hill, your speed would oscillate from slow to fast (due to the hard pack snow below the new snow). Tracks were a strong fair to good rating.

Grooming
[ Trails Open: All, Good skis ]
Trails remain in excellent shape again today. Light traffic this week and temps below freezing are keeping them soft and supple on top for skating and the tracks are not glazed and still in Blue wax condition. We did a packed base measurement this morning out on the trail and in the woods and it measured 24 inches packed base and 40 inches in the woods. As always the scenery is beautiful.
