Firsthand: Freestyle
[ Trails Open: All, Good skis ]
Trails were in amazing shape today! Can't say enough for the groomers that are helping out right now! Probably some of the best skiing this winter.

[ Trails Open: All, Good skis ]
Good skating conditions on all the trails today. The classic track looked solid (hard) with oak leave debris in places. There is a plan to Piston Bully groom both the skate deck and classic tracks this evening. You can also experience the trails in a new way tomorrow since it is ski backwards day.

I skied the green, blue and black trails late this afternoon. All were groomed mid day today and still had good corduroy. Hard base, good edge - the downhills were a bit slick but definatley skiable. Oak leaves scattered here and there but not too bad. Awesome glide.

Skate-skied green trail and the short loop between Main street and the road this morning. That short loop was superb! Trails were being groomed (snowmobile and a rake) as we skied. Groomers said that all trails, including fields, would be groomed by this afternoon. Grooming was not deep, as the snow surface is very hard. Groomed or not, all were skiable. We did not venture on any downhills as they would be above our ability to control speed. Planning on going back on Thursday, but perhaps walking the significant downhills. All the classical tracks we saw, seem to be OK.

Perfection does not exist, or I would say it was perfect. Impeccable grooming and ample base for a dream day. But it warmed up quickly and those sections in the sun were very sluggish sometimes with brutal changes of glide. Got tricky as the day progressed.

Observation
[ Trails Open: Most ]
All regular trails have been groomed this morning. Base is firm and the track was set yesterday. There are a few spots where the oaks are still dropping their leaves!

All but one short segment is groomed and tracked. 12" Base set with a groomed hard deck. As of Thursday, 1" of new snow on top of groomed trails. It is cold so it is as bit slow!

Skated the green, black, and part of the blue this morning. All trails recently groomed (two groomers out while I was there) and in great shape. Skate deck is level and mostly firm, with some still soft areas from Sunday's snow (9"). All trails have beautiful tracks set for classic.

We visit the Iola club a couple times a year and wonder why not more? The snow was fresh and well groomed and tracked. Skate deck a little soft and a bit slow but tracks were perfect. Downhill was really fun with about 6" of new snow. What a great club!

Most trails are tracked with the Piston Bully and in very good condition with some oak leaves here and there. Main deck a bit soft but very skiable. Was told all trails will be groomed tomorrow. Each day it seems to firm up after our 9" snow on Sunday. Come on out and enjoy our beautiful trails.
