28F. Cloudy to mostly cloudy. Tracks on most tight corners are washed out, but all the trail is very skiable with good skis. I was working on trail prep for Thursday's high school race. Korkki will be closed from 1500 (3pm) Wednesday Jan 13 to Friday Jan 15. No spectators are allowed during Thursday's race. :(

Perfect day at Korkki. How could it not be? Mid 20s, firm, fast tracks. Nice kick and glide with Rex N21. Some corners are a bit washed out but that's just skiing. Please note the trail will be closed Wednesday after 3pm to prepare it for a high-school race on Thursday.

Went out to Korkki to plan out the stadium layout for the high school race on Thursday. Classic tracks looked great and Mark confirmed that the trails were in excellent shape. Korkki will be closed from 3:00pm on Wednesday January 13 until Friday morning Jan 15 to set up the course and run the race on Thursday.

It was 3 degrees when we arrived at 8 a.m. this morning. We skied most of the main trails. They are all in good condition. It's a blue sky with no wind - it should be a beautiful day once it warms up.

Magical day to ring in the New Year at Korkki Nordic. Almost full parking lot at 10:00 but no congestion on the trails. Great grooming with fresh tracks all around after a day of lake effect snow yesterday. Snow was soft and fluffy, some washout on downhill corners but primarily solid deep tracks throughout. No signs of any debris on trails. Thank you Korkki Nordic for a great day of skiing!

A great day at the best place on Earth. Everything had been tracked and clearly a good number of people have already been out to enjoy it. Track was a bit soft, but has held up well. Really good coverage, didn't see any sketchy patches anywhere.

It’s hard to have a bad day at Korkki. Good early season conditions; pretty solid tracks for most of the system, herringboned out in the usual spots. A few thin areas to keep an eye out for and some occasional debris in the 4, 5, and 6k loops. I would suggest staying clear of the 10k loop for now unless you are very light on your feet and are willing to catch air a few times on the downhills. It’ll need quite some time to fill in with snow and there are very prevalent bumps and jumps along the way through the loop. A bit more debris and thin spots than the lower loops as well. Iso-Maki and the black segments on the return are pretty washed out and looks to have claimed some victims based on the divots along the margins. All in all, still a beautiful experience with plenty of good skiing to be had.

Korkki is open and the skiing is good. More snow would be great but in this difficult year just being able to escape onto the Korkki trail and feel the familiar ups, downs, twists and turns transported me to another place physically and mentally. Gone were the small squares of folks on a virtual screen, replaced by actual balsams and alder. At bay was the worry of a virus supplanted by the simple joy of speeding down a little hill and halfway up the next hill. Missing was the loneliness of hunkering down instead a steady stream of folks looking for the tranquility of the trail and an opportunity to raise their pulse rate and breathe in the fresh outside air.

Snow! A great Christmas present! Did a crisp 6k morning ski and will be skiing again this afternoon. The entire trail is groomed with the exception of Dorothy’s Loop.
