Afternoon
Firsthand: Freestyle
[ Trails Open: All, Rock skis ]
I started skiing about noon today and the trails had not been groomed for awhile. The skate deck was solid with enough softness to get an edge. I skied green to purple, part brown and blue and there was not much ice or dirt to worry about. I then did a full purple and the sections around the marsh require you to dance around ice and dirt. The groomer was out just as I finished.

Observation
[ Trails Open: All, Rock skis ]
Trails are wicked fast today with no new grooming this morning. All loops are skiable with caution. We are approaching the point of diminishing returns with grooming efforts. We'll do our best to preserve our base. At this point a small amount of snow will make a world of difference. Be careful out there.

The groomers keep doing a masterful job with the skate deck. I skied the purple, green, and red trails today. We have definitely moved into rock ski territory in some areas. The green trail especially has some rough patches from the power line to the big hill. Still, a great time.

Grooming
[ Trails Open: All, B skis ]
The skate deck on all trails were groomed today. 85% of the entire trail series skis very well. We continue to groom with a very light touch throughout the system. In the hot spots we're not able to engage the groomer tines at all. The strategy is to make it to the next snowfall which seems destined to remain on the distant horizon. Aside from our grooming team every skier can help by clearing debris from the trail as you ski and using best communication skills to keep dogs and hikers off of the ski trails.

Afternoon
Firsthand: Classic
[ Trails Open: All, B skis ]
Fine conditions for classic on Friday afternoon. Tracks are getting a bit thin, with some dirt showing and a bit of glazing. Those patches were easy to avoid and I enjoyed the ride. Skate deck looked great.

Grooming
[ Trails Open: All, B skis ]
All trails except black were groomed. Unfortunately our attenuated base does not allow setting track. We're grooming with a very light touch these days to avoid exposing more dirt and leaves. Even with that approach we're seeing the brown patches expand. We'll continue to groom on a daily basis as long as we can improve conditions overall. The only precip to hit the trails since Dec 30 has been the hoar frost falling from the trees almost daily this week between 10 and 11AM. As of today the trails ski very well but there are spots on all trails to avoid. Thanks to all benevolent skiers who use their poles to clear debris from the trails while skiing. It's a valuable skill; please teach it to other skiers. With conditions as they are removing even the small stuff will keep it from catching in the groomer tines and spreading over the trails.

Afternoon
Firsthand: Freestyle
[ Trails Open: All, B skis ]
The groomers continue to do a masterful job of grooming. The trails seem to be freshened up on a daily basis. I skied partial green and purple, blue, brown, red, and pink. The grooming has caused some of the dirt spots to be enlarged but you generally can ski around them. The downhill on the pink trail has two dirt spots that are a bit trick to get around.

Grooming
[ Trails Open: All, B skis ]
Skating lanes were all groomed today and in good condition. Classic tracks are still in but becoming shallow in spots, they will be reset as soon as we get an inch or two of fresh snow.

[ Trails Open: All, B skis ]
The damage to the trails by the OTV has been masterfully cleaned up by the groomers. There are dirt and ice spots but still some great skiing. I skied the brown, red, and purple trails without any real problems with dirt and ice. The classic track looks rough in spots. Beautiful skiing in a rime frost covered forest.

Afternoon
Firsthand: Classic
[ Trails Open: Most, B skis ]
Classic skied from the upper parking in 34 degrees and cloudy sky. Decent coverage across the deck gave skaters the advantage, but a nice glide for the striders in shallow, skied-in tracks. Easily avoidable thin areas, otherwise nice conditions. Carpe Skiem!
