Afternoon
Observation
[ Trails: Closed ]
The sudden arrival of spring this week has taken major bites out of our entire trail system. I saw one set of ski tracks on sections of the brown loop from earlier in the day. Other portions of the trail are skiable if you're willing to walk over the washed out areas. Photos are from areas which usually retain show the longest. Time to bid a fond farewell to ski season 2020-21.

Firsthand: Classic
[ B skis ]
The back half of the Purple and the trail through the campground were wet and slow, but skiable. Great base. Lots of snow fleas. Could be the season finale.

Afternoon
Firsthand: Freestyle
[ Trails Open: All, Rock skis ]
It's back to rock skis now with bare spots developing on the red, green and purple loops. Also the snowmobile trail crossings are getting down to the rocks. No grooming was done today but skiing pretty good after snow temps rose above freezing. The base is still very firm and thick over 90% of the system. Temps for the week will be above freezing overnight so no grooming will be done until the next significant snowfall if it occurs before we put our grooming equipment to bed for the spring.

Grooming
[ Trails Open: Partial, B skis ]
We dragged parts of the red, brown, green and purple trails. Probably best to ski the thaw. Not much of a track left, it’s closer to a bobsled run.

Morning
Firsthand: Freestyle
[ Trails Open: All, B skis ]
The window today was from about 10-12:00. It's a moving target day to day. Started out with skis bumping and chattering especially on the north facing descents and then dragging toward the end in all sun exposed areas. No grooming was done today but yesterday's groomed areas held up well. The usual hot spots on the red loop are burning through now with ice and standing water at the bottom of the 2nd hill. The green loop has bare areas near the power lines but is holding up well otherwise. The purple loop is getting thin and will likely burn through near the west power lines. The brown and beginner loops are the best and most consistent. Enjoy it while it lasts!

Morning
Firsthand: Freestyle
[ Trails Open: All, Good skis ]
Skied the purple loop twice this morning (about 8:30-10:00). Conditions were icy on the first loop, but the groomer and the warm temperatures softened things considerably for the second run. There was some debris on the trail, but no bare spots. Good conditions overall, considering the weather, but I don't expect they will last much longer. Many thanks to the groomers.

Decent spring skiing conditions. Dragged parts of red, green, brown, purple trails. Not much track left.

Evening
Observation
Greenbush Trails look to have a thick bomb-proof base in most places. 38-degree high temps for much of the afternoon didn’t affect it too much. The skate deck was given a couple of passes with the G-2 groomer. Still a very hard and icy base between 4:45 and 6:15 for our team’s practice. Should be great skiing when the sun is out and it begins to thaw.

Grooming
[ Trails Open: All, B skis ]
I worked on the brown loop, red and green to purple loops this morning. The groomed trails were still rock hard. I tried skiing after grooming at around 11:00. Sun exposed areas were quite good but shaded areas are hard and icy. My skis were bouncing all over the icy downhills. It might get better later as things warm up. Overall the base is well preserved for now.

Wasn’t sure what to expect with fog rain and above freezing temps in Milwaukee but I was not disappointed. Remarkably consistent and stable base for skating as late as 1pm when I finished 4 purple loops in 2 hrs. Not fast but very even despite the wrong wax. This is why I donate to Greenbush Nordic each year!
