New Reports Report Requests

Notes

Located 18 miles north of Duluth, the groomed trails are in nice primitive outdoor setting. The trails feature the "Wolfski's Ski Den" warming shack, open daily sunrise to sunset. In addition to the 21 kilometers of classical skiing, there will also be 11 kilometers groomed for skate-skiing. Trails are groomed Fridays and Mondays, and/or as needed. No fee or Minnesota State Ski Pass is required.

Afternoon
Firsthand: Classic
[ Trails Open: All, B skis ]
Trails have not been groomed. I parked in the empty East lot and used my rock classic skis to just enjoy some time in the woods. There was definitely more animal than human tracks. Nine Pine now has a set of skied on tracks. Things didn't look much different over on Blue Ox.

Firsthand: Classic
[ Trails: Closed, Rock skis ]
Just thought I'd come out for a slog. Crunchy, icy, uneven, sticks... ghost town. We just need some snow. Glad I came to check it out. Classic skied all of Nine Pine. Hills are dangerous. Snow plow doesn't even work on them.

Observation
[ Trails Open: Most ]
I drove over to check on Boulder, and surprised to see they had groomed. Definitely rock skiing from what I could tell. Only skate trails groomed (i.e. not the single track side). Will report back with more once I ski it.

Afternoon
Firsthand: Classic
[ B skis ]
Skied the Blue Ox loop. No grooming appears to have happened. People had skied tracks in, but someone walked in them for the entire length of the loop. Add in the occasional mound from snowmobiles and some branches and plants sticking through, I'd recommend waiting for some more snow and some grooming before taking a trip out here.

Observation
Looked at trails at East parking lot. No grooming evident yet. A skied in classic track looked pretty good heading to north but no recent ski tracks to the left of parking lot. Appears to have enough snow to at least pack and roll.

Afternoon
Firsthand: Classic
[ Trails Open: Partial, B skis ]
We classic skied the blue ox trail loop at Boulder Lake with the dogs this afternoon (dogs allowed Thursdays and Sundays). Not at all sections were groomed but the single track that folks have been laying is skiable and none of the three of us hit any rocks or saw bare ground. Some significant vehicle ruts added to the plentiful wildlife tracks, but none that interfered much with the ski track. Our backcountry metal edged skis worked great, but so did our friend's regular skinny skis. Blue ox/bear paw parking lot was open and plowed.

Afternoon
Observation Secondhand
[ Trails: Closed ]
I was up at Boulder lake for the tree cutting on Saturday, and looked at the trails and talked to some folks up there. Trails aren't groomed yet; it sounds like the plan will be to wait for some more snow.

Afternoon
Firsthand: Classic
[ B skis ]
We skied the north loops, which were not brushed, rolled, or groomed. There is enough snow to ski, but there are several fallen trees and occasional patches of tansy and goldenrod. Conditions were iffy enough that we did not ski Rolling Pin.
