Trail Detail
Notes
Located 18 miles north of Duluth, the groomed trails are in nice primitive outdoor setting. The trails feature the "Wolfski's Ski Den" warming shack, open daily sunrise to sunset. In addition to the 21 kilometers of classical skiing, there will also be 11 kilometers groomed for skate-skiing. Trails are groomed Fridays and Mondays, and/or as needed. No fee or Minnesota State Ski Pass is required.Trail Reports

I classic skied everything but Lonesome grouse. Overall pretty hard and icy, but maybe softened up a bit in the sunshine patches. Unfortunately there was just a ton of sticks and bark debris from fridays winds. As a result, I didn't really bother using the classic tracks because they were quite jerky. It seemed like the groomers have been doing a real nice job, so it's too bad for the sticks. There were actually two trees across the trail I had to skirt around. Lonesome grouse tracks looked so full of debris that I didn't go test it out.

Skate skied blue ox to nine pine, hopping in the classic tracks for some double polling every so often. A few places with bare spots in the classic tracks and undergrowth poking through a few places in the skate deck. Skied from about 10:30am until 1pm. Deck was still relatively frozen, except in a few spots with full sun where it was getting pretty slushy. A few places with lots of debris, but still able to avoid most of it. Didn't look like it had been groomed on Friday.

Fine temperatures for an afternoon ski! Dog Sunday, and a few on the course. Good classic track set. Almost a bit icy, decent grip, very fast. Skate deck looked fast. A bit of debris on the east route on Nine Pine. West side by road less debris. Lonesome Grouse track solid, fast. All south trails groomed and tracked. North trails not groomed, backcountry skis and snowshoes.

Excellent conditions with nicely set track. Easy, pleasant ski - no skied-out areas - only a little stubble poking up here and there. Skate deck still shows corduroy. Skied Bear Paw and Blue Ox then hit the wonderful ski den for hot chocolate. Classic track set fairly far to the right, so you have to avoid occasional twigs and branches.

Skied Blue Ox. Beautiful afternoon, 14 degrees, clear skies, almost no breeze. Good snow coverage; only a few weeds exposed, but snow not deep enough to get a deep pole plant. Good classic tracks set with only a couple of spots on downhill runs where tracks very thin. Skating deck did not appear to have been rolled at all, although skate skiers appeared to be zipping right along uphill and down.
