Trail Detail
Notes
Located 18 miles north of Duluth, the groomed trails are in nice primitive outdoor setting. The trails feature the "Wolfski's Ski Den" warming shack, open daily sunrise to sunset. In addition to the 21 kilometers of classical skiing, there will also be 11 kilometers groomed for skate-skiing. Trails are groomed Fridays and Mondays, and/or as needed. No fee or Minnesota State Ski Pass is required.Trail Reports

Trails were recently groomed and had half an inch of fresh snow over hard packed snow. Skied all of the freestyle trails and snow was free from debris and pretty fast.

27 F at 8:00 AM Saturday morning. Just a half-inch dusting of new snow on beautifully groomed trails. Boulder has been doing a great job on the trails this year. Fischer Zeros gave reasonable glide with Fast Wax red paste, and plenty of kick, no clumping. Not the fastest conditions of the year, but darn good, given the temp and all the new snow we have had recently. Absolutely beautiful out there in the woods. Has this been a great season already, or what?!

We skated Blue Ox, Nine Pine and Bear Paw Sunday afternoon. It was evident there had been plenty traffic on the trails earlier in the day but it was still the hardest I've worked for roughly 11k all year. New snow left a good 2-4" of fluff on the skate course, probably would've been better to classic until groomed. Little to no debris on the trail.

We skijored, classic skied and skate skied Blue Ox and Bear Paw today. I know the groomer did the trails yesterday, but they got at least 2 to 3 inches of new snow on top of that which made for a tough skate. The classic tracks were pretty well skied in and mostly intact. They work hard out there to keep the trails in tip top shape so I'm sure they will be out soon!

Headed out for a skijor around midday. A couple of inches of fresh snow on top of a fairly soft skate deck made the skating a bit of a slog. I think classic would have been a better bet. Beautiful in the woods with the freshly flocked trees.

Otter Run was pure bliss today. Only a single skier had apparently been on it after it was groomed, and there was new powder on top of those tracks. Would have been even faster with next colder grip wax! Perfect trail condition for getting youngsters out on an easy trail - if you can keep them warm.

Some debris on trail Thursday afternoon but a firm skate deck. Dave groomed again last night. Sounds like Snowflake and Boulder are the places to be this weekend.

Lake Crossing in excellent condition with a few very small patches of frozen slush. Crust over the former slush is hard and groomed. Bear Paw and Blue Ox in fast, excellent condition. A few leaves on the trail, and one of them dumped me on a hill. An excellent, uncrowded outing!
