The Pb was out again this evening. The man made loop was tilled and tracks were reset. The lighted loop off the man made loop is in poor shape. There are areas of ice and some bare ground is starting to show. Unless we get more snow the Pb won’t be going off the man made loop again this season. Conditions on the man made loop are excellent. There is a full depth classic track and skate deck is perfect corduroy. There is plenty of snow on the man made loop.

Very skiable conditions on the manmade snow loops. A surface mixture of slush and ice was neither painfully slow nor frighteningly fast. Easy control and edging; not too sticky. Dirty spots are becoming an issue, especially near the pines. Be prepared to give your skis a good cleaning after skiing in conditions like today. A big Thank You to Park staff for last night’s grooming.

Did the Virtual Birkie starting at 7:30 on nice corduroy. Skied the whole course which was in great shape. Of course, conditions deteriorated with the warm sunshine. Lots of happy skiers, Thank you, groomers! I was happy to virtual at my home base.

Great morning skiing on lighted trail loop especially given the warmer temperatures. Mark (groomer) did an amazing job preparing Lapham Ppeak for the virtual birkie. Thank you Mark! We appreciate your time and efforts.

Overnight grooming with the PB provided a nice surface for virtual Birkie skiers and everyone else on the manmade and lighted loops. New tracks were successfully set on these loops. Warming temps and a bright sun slowed things considerably as the day wore on. Shady areas retained some of the speed. Expect that conditions will transition back to fast as the sun goes down.

Grooming
[ Trails Open: All, Good skis ]
The Pb was out Friday night with great results. I tilled the entire lighted loop and set new classic tracks. Most areas were double tracked. I saw the DNR grooming the upper trails but don’t know the results at this time.

The lighted loop was groomed by the Pb at night. The skate deck was tilled and is in good condition. Flat and firm with a loose layer of snow on top. Should be great skiing in the morning. The classic track is another story. Where there was a track it was left as is. It is too firm to reset a new track at this time.

I parked at homestead and planned to do the outside loop, but abandoned the plan after going down the far side of tower hill. Holy cow that was an interesting ride down. Very hard and icy in the shade with some soft spots in full sun. I do not recommend.

Epic failure for your virtual Birkie partner at Lapham this morning. Conditions we’re unsafe and not skiable on the lighted loop (nature made snow) and back section. After Big Valley there is a groomer stuck on the trail. The groomer has ripped up the base to dirt on this section. I eventually took my skis off at section E13 and walked around the system back to the lighted trail. The boot pocked, rutted, and rock hard conditions made it too dangerous to ski. Tower looks to be a mess as well. Throughout the back trails there are several large boot marks going down the middle of the trail system. Some look to be the groomers after he abandoned his machine. Super unsafe as they are deep and frozen solid. I hope the groomers can recover from this.

The Pb was out last night with mixed results. Just the man made loop was tilled and a small section of the classic track was set. The snow cutter on the Pb works great but it did take awhile to get used to so only the lower part of the man made loop was renovated. Grooming plan: The remaining section will be done tonight.
