Notes

The Lester-Amity trail offers 15K of varied terrain for beginner to experienced skiers through pine, aspen, and birch forests. An additional 3K circles the Lester Park Golf Course and is accessible from the main Lester-Amity Trail. The openness of the golf course offers an excellent place for beginning cross-country skiers, and several short cuts are available. There is also a 5K trail portion that is lit in the mornings and evenings.

Afternoon
Firsthand: Freestyle
[ B skis ]
Ungroomed as of 1:30. Lower sections are best described as dust on crust. Upper sections (above C) were very nice for skating. Classic tracks looked a little shallow and washed out but not bad. Some small sticks and leaves are the trail, but less than I expected after yesterday's winds.

A solid ice base with yesterday's inch of snow on top. I parked at the chalet. The classic tracks in the lit loop on top were decent. The skate tracks were great in some spots, bare ice in others.

Ungroomed as of 3pm but good trails for 90% of trail from playground trailhead to E and back. Wind pressed snow on iced base made for good firm push off. 10 % of iced over trail bit at critical junctures.

As of 3pm, Lester was still ungroomed, but lots of people have skied the trail in, including some folks with an impressively straight stride who made a nice set of tracks. Wouldn't recommend the lower part by the playground, but A and above are lovely, with some icy spots where the wind blew the new snow off the trail. Will be even nicer once groomed, but not complaining one bit!

Lower loop (off second parking area on Occidental Rd) is a skating rink. Any accumulated snow from yesterday was blown off the ice. Lots of debris. Unskiable by me, didn't make it more than 150 yds.

Temps rose above freezing so the trails weren't as icy as I had heard and read from others. Some thin spots but overall not too bad, downhills were very fast, but not totally glazed over. Will be a great base to build upon.

Better than I expected. Did the entire out loop and it was worth going out there. A few roots and one rock to watch out. A lot of debris but I was still happy to have gone. Tracks decent for most of the trail. Some tricky spots.

Stable conditions to earlier in week. Tracks still there, still icy and some debris on trail here and there. Enjoyable skiing if you're comfortable with slipping an edge every now and then especially on uphills.

About 90% of trail is decent- definitely an icy base under the ungroomed inch on top. Definitely be aware of high fall potential. A few corners are icy or with dirt but easy enough to navigate. Looking forward to next snowfall...

It was a tough night at Lester and I bailed after doing the lower area loops. There were a lot of bare spots and dirt sticking through the middle are of the trail. Skate deck was solid and hard to ski on. Not impossible just really icy and hard. Would recommend going elsewhere until we get more snow. Track was decent albeit icy. It is well formed but be ready to jump out occasionally do to dirt and leaves.
