Just wanted to encourage skate skiers to try Valhalla if you don't mind a slower ski. Though it hasn't been groomed since the last few inches fell, enough of us skated on it throughout the week that you're only lifting ski tips over the last 1.5" or so, and that snow was quite light. If you (like me) are weaning yourself off snowplowing steeper/bigger downhills, these conditions are perfect practice for that! I also snowshoed the Valkyrie (classic-only) A-B trails and they looked in perfect condition, with just a bit of powder over the last groomer tracks set. People seem to have been classic skiing over there enough that the track is probably not too slow.

Trail system was groomed by the US Forest Service today. Teuton trails are groomed for skating and tracked Valkyrie trails are tracked.

Warm temperatures and a light mist slowed the skate deck somewhat, but the corduroy still provided solid purchase with each stride. The downhills offered good control throughout. There were a few areas with leaf debris, though it was easy to avoid and didn't detract from the experience. Overall, it was an excellent ski. Huge thanks to the Forest Service grooming crew for delivering very solid trail conditions despite less-than-ideal weather. I was genuinely impressed by how skiable the trails were.

Skated all of the loops today and they were in perfect condition, nice fast glide and firm, but not icy surface. Classic tracks were fast on the downhills, and generally looked pretty solid all around.

Grooming
[ Trails Open: All, B skis ]
Yes folks, we got it groomed today! Everything is groomed and tracked! It was warm and sunny and calm, so beautiful. The base has set up nice for solid pole plants. The fresh skate deck is a little soft, to be expected but reports coming in say it's great. The classic tracks should set up with solid walls. Did the best we could tossing sticks, a little more debris on the Valkyrie side. So fun seeing all the skiers out!

I classic skied the A loop and a few of the side trails. Good conditions! Connie and Greg were out so the trails were just groomed!

I believe Connie and Greg groomed everything today, both sides of hwy C, for skate and classic, and they really transformed the trails. I skated loops A and B on a late lunch break, and they are in very good condition. Some sticks and leaf litter, but nothing like it was before the last snow.

Parking lots are plowed. One pass with the roller on Valkyrie side. Tried setting tracks on Sun bowl. Bottom of the tracks is the icy snow layer. And the groomer acted like a box scraper pulling a lot of the fresh snow. Lots of twigs and needles on trail.

I classic skied the Teuton trails. The snow was a bit icy and has some new snow since the last groom. The downhills are fast. There are a lot of down twigs so be careful with your skis. I talked to a fellow in the parking lot the just got done with Valkyrie and said there is a lot of down red pine needles and it's a bit like skiing on grass. My wife skate skied and had a bunch of fun but the new snow plus ice made it difficult.

All trails on Teuton are groomed and tracked! The base is well packed at this point, the deck is on its way to setting up, and the tracks were firm up at the shed. The Valkyrie side was dragged and rolled with comb today. Met a lot of happy skiers today! Enjoy!
