I skied Fred Dell, Turtleville, Hastings, and Pioneer loops for a total of 15.8 kilometers. Temperatures were in the low 30's. I was surprised at how soft and slow the skate deck was already at that time and temperature. I would rate overall trail conditions as good. However, control on the steep downhills was excellent. Overall, it was a great day of skiing.

Great skiing this morning. We classic skied Fern Dell, Turtleville and Hastings with Pioneer pass. All the skate decks had been re-groomed, the classic tracks had not been re-groomed but were fine. Some oak leaves and pine needles from all the wind. I used my wax skis and had great glide and no slipping using blue with a little violet under my feet. These are best conditions Mirror Lake has had in years. Too bad we have a lengthy warm up coming.

I skied Northwest, Ishnala, Pioneer, Newport, Kilbourn and Hastings. Tracks were firm and fast with minimal leaf litter if just a few places. The skate deck is very firm too. I got plenty of edge going downhill and had a fantastic day on the trails.

Hats off to groomers after marginal conditions on Tuesday. Turtleville and Ferndell was freshly groomed, good to excellent with a few uneven spots and debris. Hastings Pioneer and Ishnala had one inch ungroomed but still fairly decent. Was relatively fast considering it was 0F when I started. Overall, good to excellent! Tracks good to for striders.

[ Trails Open: Most, B skis ]
Skated all trails that are open this afternoon, which is most. The trail is in overall great condition given the challenging terrain and all the snow coming in just a week. All climbs were firm and well groomed. B skis only due to a few avoidable areas of small twigs and pine needles, just jump into the tracks to avoid. They were just finishing setting tracks and they looked great. Get out there and get some distance in on some of the most beautiful trails in the state!

I skate skied Ferndale and turtleville. They had been groomed that morning. Very skiable but they're still having problems with their machine leaving track indentations making for tricky footing in many areas. The track set for the classic skiers looked very good.

Firsthand: Freestyle Secondhand

Skated Fern Dell after dark in cold, cold conditions. Park staff had laid down fresh cord earlier in the afternoon and despite poor glide, conditions were quite good for skating. Friends who skied Turtleville reported similar fresh cord. My husband learned from DNR the park has experienced equipment and staffing issues which have delayed grooming the past week. But they are trying their best and little by little improvement continues.

Skied Fern dell and Turtleville around noon. The trails need lots of work, wasn't groomed looks like for the past several days - bumps and uneven. Very disappointing.

[ B skis ]
We skied Fern Dell and Turtleville. Between the cold and super soft conditions, it was a pretty awful ski. The skate deck was so-so on Fern Dell, but it was extremely soft in Turtleville. I'm not a very good skate skier, but I could barely skate up some of the hills because it was just so slow and soft. There was evidence that classic tracks had been set at Fern Dell, but for the most part they were totally washed out. I don't think they were set at all on Turtleville. Kick and glide on skin skis was absolutely awful.

Trails groomed but not tracked. Good level of snow. Great conditions. Great skiing! All trails appear to be open. I skied Fern Dell and Hasting trails.
