Back to winter, and a perfect day for a long ski. After a rainy weekend, about 15km was groomed early this morning. Nice corduroy and full depth tracks, with 5-6cm of fairly dry new snow on top as of 1pm. Temp was -7c at 9am and -4c at 1pm, light snow continuing all day. There is still close to 2 feet of packed base on most sections of trail. Although the chalet is now closed for the season, I spoke with Kamview staff and was told that the plan is to continue daily grooming with the Bully this week, weather permitting. No doubt there's enough snow depth to continue well into May, it's just a question of how many cold nights remain.

Status quo at Kamview. Fresh grooming with the PistenBully on about 20km this morning. Excellent for skate and classic. -2C and overcast with more snow in the forecast.

Excellent spring ski conditions. All trails are open, and daily grooming with the PistenBully continues on all trails except Lookout and Meadows, so roughly 20km is groomed. Meadows is great for morning crust skiing, Lookout is basically a backcountry trail for now, and probably still has some trees down from the last big snowstorm (Wed/Thu). Still a ton of snow on the trails. Looks like February, feels like April.

Soooo happy to be back in Canada and thank you Thunder Bay for the warm welcome sign. Very appreciative of Kamview for keeping my ski season going. Fantastic grooming and nice skiing at 42 degrees by the time we left at 2:30. As we were leaving we heard that someone has "paid it forward" and bought a ski pass for whomever came in next. Only in Canada!

Minus 10C and bright sunshine at 9am. Ski conditions today are as good as it gets, nevermind that it's April. Deep snow, perfect tracks, and flat, solid corduroy. Entire trail system was PB groomed again this morning after 10-15cm Wednesday and a bit of cold powder yesterday. Still about a meter of snow on the ground with what looks like 30-50cm of compacted base on most trails. Given the cool forecast, this season is a long way from over.

Another beauty of a day on the trails. It looks like the maintenance and grooming crews have been very busy. Everything is open again now and Pisten Bully groomed with the exception of the Lookout Trail, where downed trees still need to be removed. There is also the hundred or so open acres adjacent to the Meadows Trail, which was still fantastic for crust skiing just after noon today.

Almost 48 hours of contiuous snow (no ice or rain) Tuesday and Wednesday dumped about 60cm on the trails at Kamview. Snow depth off trail varies, but is over a meter in most areas. Trail crews were out last night clearing downed trees and grooming. As of noon Thursday, about 15km is open and groomed with the Pisten Bully. Conditions for both skate and classic on these trails are excellent. The snow was very dense, so considering the amount, trails are very firm and had set up nicely by 10am. I would avoid skate skiing late afternoon today, but otherwise expect conditions to get even better as the snow settles, grooming continues, and more trails open up.
