Trail Detail
Notes
This is a remote trail that is groomed by volunteers for classic skiing that goes thru jackpine forests, black spruce swamps and over glacial eskers. A skier will probably see more tracks of deer, wolves and moose that they will of other skiers. A snowshoe trail is also starts by the trailhead. Located two miles south of Hellman's Store on CR 44.Trail Reports

Pretty network of trails, nicely groomed. Some leaf litter in tracks and fast conditions, though there had been a little dusting of snow to slow it down a wee bit. I skied most of the trails on both sides of the road. The rated difficult Mother Bear loops are indeed difficult, especially when it is fast--steep hills up and down, sharp turns at the bottom, big trees close to the trail. They are a good reminder about how much work goes into making a ski trail, and I appreciate them for that. I got back onto the intermediate/easy trails and gave a big sigh of relief!

A pleasant March afternoon today at Mother Bear Ski Trails. I skied the easy and difficult sections; not the experts ones. There was some needle and leaf debris on certain stretches but not much. Overall, the trail was in very good condition – nicely groomed with good maps and numbering. Definitely worth the short 40 mile drive north from Duluth.

Trail is all groomed after the 11.3" of snow we received. It's in excellent shape except for a few drifted spots overlooking the Cloquet River where we got stuck grooming. Enjoy.

Fabulous day of skiing at Mother bear. Tracks were freshly set, but was snow was still pretty soft. A fair amount of pine needles and small sticks were mixed into the snow. Loved the solitude of these trails. Used Toko spray on glider and Start Terva Black with a Terva Green toe pocket.
