Notes

Very scenic with views of the Flambeau River and a heavily timbered landscape. Portions of the upper loop and cutoffs on the east side of the lower loop are more challenging. There is a three-sided shelter on the west side of the upper loop.

2020-2021 season

[ Trails Open: Most, Good skis ]
Snuss trail was fabulous for skating. Firm and nicely groomed. Some of the other sections of trail were a bit narrow, but once the second pass is made it will be fantastic. It is quite skateable now, but will only improve. A few soft grabby spots on squirrel but I would still recommend. Such a great trail to enjoy the serene beauty of winter in Wisconsin. Thanks DNR!

Grooming
[ Trails Open: All, Good skis ]
All trails were groomed/tracked this morning with the exception of the two alternate sections of the Rim Creek loop. The skate deck is very soft and the track is brittle due to the extreme cold temps. Only one pass was made around the trail system. When temperatures improve, a double pass will be made.

Grooming
[ Trails Open: All, B skis ]
All trails were packed/rolled this morning. After the first time through, I dropped the pan behind the roller to have a smooth corduroy deck. For the most part it turned out well for not using the actual groomer. It is still soft but should firm up with the cold temps. Next week I plan to get back out with the groomer, cut it, and finish it with track. I have it listed as B skis for the rating due to the one area just north of the Mason Creek bridge on the Snuss trail just as a precaution. Other than that, the trail filled in nicely and should be in great shape next week.

Skate skied Northern loop (Snuss around Pelican) early afternoon. First ones on the groomed trail (groomed Tuesday). Nice job, thanks so much. Pretty decent skate lane with a few soft spots. Debris covered and no ground showing. Some raspberries along the edges. Hope we get a bit more snow. So very good to be out on a beautiful day. Thanks again.

Grooming
[ Trails Open: All, B skis ]
All trails were groomed this morning and are in good shape overall. There are a few thin spots yet and some dips/holes that are uneven but very easily avoided. If all goes to plan, the trails will be groomed again Friday morning.

Grooming
[ Trails Open: All, Rock skis ]
All trails were groomed this morning double wide. Overall, the trails are in fair condition. There are holes and dips that need leveling out along with thin spots in certain areas. with the current conditions, only the "Short Swing" loop was tracked. The first couple hundred yards north of Mason Creek bridge on the Snuss trail continues to be very rough. Beyond that towards Pelican and the northern trail head is in much better condition. With a little more snow, trails conditions will greatly improve.

Grooming
[ Trails Open: All, Rock skis ]
The entire trail system was rolled this morning. The trails need a few more inches of snow before the groomer is used. There are lots of thin spots where dirt and rocks are showing. A large amount of debris is also on the trail now after the recent high winds. Trails are skiable but in very poor condition. No track is set for classic. Hopefully in the near future we get more snow. We're definitely off to a rough start.

Grooming Observation
[ Trails Open: All, Rock skis ]
The snow did not add up like the forecast predicted last night. There is an inch at best of wet heavy snow. The trails are open and skiable but in poor condition. They will not be packed or groomed for the weekend. Taking the machine will likely do more harm than good right now. We need snow!

Grooming
[ Trails Open: All, Rock skis ]
All trails have been rolled as of this morning. The base is thin and there is a lot of debris with rocks/dirt in areas. The Snuss trail just north of where it crosses Mason Creek is in very poor condition and not recommended. All other loops are skiable. We will need substantial snow to fill in the holes/low spots and cover the hazards/debris before the groomer is out on the trail.

Grooming
[ Trails Open: All, Rock skis ]
All trails are open. They have not been rolled yet due to staffing issues. Grooming plans: Trails should be rolled before the upcoming weekend. There was a lot of debris in the trail this fall from a very large beaver dam issue.
