Skied the main loop and the shortcut. Maybe some other trails when I got lost. Coverage was great, glide was good, and edging was easy. A few thin spots and quite a bit of debris, but not the worst. Unfortunately, the trails were extremely bumpy throughout. This made control on hills, whether you're going up or down, quite difficult. I got there as groomers were preparing another network of trails for a cool event called Ski For Light. This made navigating the trail system a bit confusing if you're not already familiar with the usual trails.

Firsthand: Classic

Still a decent track at Northwoods. Not deep or fresh and perhaps a bit icy, but it's one of the few classic tracks in the Rhinelander area. Kick was tough to come by even with a binder and three layers on, I think a factor of the hard/icy track. A few dirt spots here and there that are pretty easily avoidable. Some downhills are a bit sketchy, especially where no track is set and you have to venture onto the bumpy skate deck.

Northwoods was in fair to good condition with some recent refreshing of the skate deck on some of the outer loops. The skate deck was pretty lumpy bumpy due to low snow conditions, but firm after the deep freeze. There are definitely still some thin spots to avoid, not all of which are easy to hop around so rock skis recommended. Classic tracks looked quite nice for the low snow conditions.

Thanks to the Northwood's Nordic Ski Club groomers for making the trails skiable after Friday's storm. It was soft, narrow and a bit uneven but it won't take much to transform this beautiful rolling terrain into the Nordic ski gem it is. Carpe Skiem!
