Morning
Firsthand: Classic
[ Trails Open: All, Good skis ]
Sunny, with temperatures around 0°F. Overall very good conditions. While freshly groomed, the classic tracks were shallow in some exposed areas due to blowing snow with the overnight wind. Some minor debris in areas for the same reasons.

Skated the red/main trail 2x. Skate deck is flat and soft enough to get nice skate push. The classic track looked very deep/smooth on the whole loop. Sunshine through the trees was amazing. The rolling hills are so fun with the great conditions.

I skied Northwood in the late morning. The groomer was laying down a carpet of corduroy on an inch or so of new powder. By the time I finished the classic tracks had been laid down. The trail is beautiful to ski and beautiful to see.

Afternoon
Firsthand: Classic
[ Trails Open: All, Good skis ]
Nearly all trails (except Short Cut) had classic tracks reset Tuesday. Tracks are in great condition--firm, deep, and minimal deer tracks damage or leaf litter. Best classic conditions here of the winter so far. The skate deck had half of it refreshed (the half with classic tracks) on the same trails, with some of them having the full skate deck groomed. Overall, conditions looked good for both skate and classic.

Northwoods was in great shape for skating this morning. Groomer scratched up Cooks Run and the main loop yesterday and the skate deck was firm and crusty but not icy. Other trails may be icy. There was a little bit of windblown snow here and there that was very slow. Tracks looked good but will probably be somewhat slow due to new snow settling and collecting in them.

My first time skiing at Northwood and it was fantastic! Extremely well mapped and well marked trails made it easy for a first-timer. I skied classic and the tracks were wonderfully firm and fast. The skate deck looked lovely as well.

Grooming
[ Trails Open: All, Good skis ]
All trails are open and groomed for both classic and skate techniques and are in great shape. Come out and enjoy the trails and the snow-covered woodlands. A question I get every year is how much of our trail system is on the golf course. The answer is very little. The trailhead is at Northwood Golf Course; however, the trails quickly dive into the surrounding woods. We have approximately 15 km of diverse trails in the rolling hardwoods. Many feel that our system is for intermediate skiers, but there are several technical stretches on certain trails.
