Just finished a long classic ski on the trails groomed last night during the transition back to cold. The tracks were quite good, not icy, and dusted with a thin layer of crystal snow. I plan to return with classic again this evening, but skating would also work as the groomer created sufficient surface to hold an edge. The sun has also contributed to additional edging potential in exposed areas. This place is a very fine place to say good bye to winter.

We got out tonight to do some grooming as the temps started drop. The trails are holding up really well considering the temperatures we have had. The trails groomed today should be in good shape for awhile. We groomed Big Pine, Little Pine, Lonely Lake and Amperage. They were all groomed with a skate deck and a classic track. There were a couple of rocks starting to show up on Amperage that will be easy to spot and avoid. As well there were a couple of spots where water was starting to surface that should freeze tonight. Overall they are in good spring shape.

Just finished a long classic ski on these trails which included a long steep descent down Highland trail. The classic tracks are in good spring conditions, firm, with just a little give. There is sufficient softness on the steep downhills by which to control speed and prevent blackouts. Probably better to stay with classic until the temperature cools. The base is firm and deep in most places and I imagine they will be skiing here for awhile as many of the trails are protected by the north exposures and mature tree cover. The sun exposed trails I saw remained very good, and the rain caused minimal to no damage to trail quality. If you want to hang on to winter a little longer, perhaps the Gunflint could be your ticket. I have two more days.

The temps dropped into the single digits overnight. We were out this morning and groomed Big Pine and Little Pine as well as Amperage and Lonely Lake trails. All with a skate deck and a classic track. The trails groomed up well. Grooming plans: We are planning on getting back out later today to groom the rest of the system.

We were out again grooming the ski trails this morning doing Overlook, Highlands, Ham Lake, North Star, Upper West End, Amperage, Lonely Lake, Big Pine and Little Pine. The rest of the trail system was groomed yesterday morning. All of the trails were groomed with a skate deck and a classic track. The conditions are still really good with a firm base and deep tracks. There is still time for you to get some prime winter skiing in! We do have just under a mile of the ice skate lanes reopened after the thaw on the lake. Most of the trails ended up with deep slush, but the Summer Homeowners Bay loop held up pretty good. We hope you can come up and enjoy the winter conditions before they are gone!

We were out again this morning to groom the rest of the trail system. This morning we groomed Overlook, Rabbit Run, Aspen Alley, Warren's Road, Cut Across, Power Line, short Cut, River Trail and Lower West End. All were groomed with a skate deck and a classic track. The snow held up really well and we didn't lose much of the base. Grooming plans: We will be out to groom through the weekend.

Skied several trails starting from Gunflint Lodge. Tracks were in good condition with some debris and a few bare spots that were easy to avoid. Skied Little Pine, Big Pine, Amperage and Lonely Lake. All were groomed last night. Really enjoyed Amperage - after a climb at the beginning it was relatively flat - woo hoo! Overcast skies helped preserve the snow base. Staff at the lodge were very friendly and helpful. Pic of start of Little Pine and me after skiing with Canada in the background.

We got out early to groom the ski trails. The overnight temperatures are keeping the snow in good shape and we really haven't lost any of the base. The trails groomed up really well. The skate deck is firm with a good grip and the classic tracks are deep and setting up well. The trails groomed this morning were Big Pine, Little Pine, Amperage, Lonely Lake, Overlook, Highlands, Ham Lake, North Star and Upper West End. All were groomed with a skate deck and a classic track. The ice skate trails currently have pooling water. We are staying off them until the water on top refreezes. If they freeze again, we will get them in shape to resume skating.

We were back out grooming the trails close in to the resort. Big Pine, Little Pine, Amperage and Lonely Lake were all groomed with a classic track and a skate deck. All the trails are in great shape with firm skate decks and deep tracks.
