Skied the South loop only at noon today. Newly groomed, beautiful, packed and groomed for classic. Also the trail along the river was groomed for classic. Was wonderful. Thanks groomers.

[ Trails Open: Most, B skis ]
Skied everything south of the Visitor Center today at lunch. Not sure when it was last groomed, there was 1-2" of fluff to ski through. Not very fast, but coverage was good and allowed for some good technique practice. Beautiful day!

Afternoon
Grooming
[ Trails Open: All, B skis ]
All trails combed with generally good skate deck but minimal, icy base starting to show itself. Track set on entire north loop, shallow with icy stretches, but still a good classic experience. Track set on south loop except the stretch from Cenaiko Lake to the Pleasure Creek bridge, where base is insufficient. Wooded areas in south loop decent, similar to the north loop.

Afternoon
Grooming
[ Trails Open: All, B skis ]
All trails combed today. Skate deck good, but soft. Track set throughout except the stretch from north end of Cenaiko Lake to south tip of south loop, due to insufficient base in that area. Track in general is in fair condition--shallow in places with icy stretches.

Skated the South loop this morning. Wide skate deck throughout. Side closest to the river has seen a lot of foot traffic. Soft snow made for slow going. No classic tracks groomed in. Couples spots with heavy leaf cover. Did not check the north loop.

Afternoon
Observation
Rode the paved trail from 86th up to the southernmost part of the South loop. Looks like the skate deck has been groomed but didn't see new classic tracks down in that area. Looks to have been a fair amount of foot traffic following the river but the east side of the South loop appeared to be in good shape.

Afternoon
Firsthand: Classic
[ Trails Open: All, B skis ]
Classical skied both the south and north trails this afternoon. South trail toward Cenaiko Lake was in best condition; set tracks still basically fast and smooth. North trail had intermittent to frequent occurrence of leaves and some twigs in set tracks; overall rating of good to just fair condition in some spots. Nice weather.. partly cloudy and low wind. Get after it!

Looking for good grooming and natural snow with no hills? Coon Rapids Dam was just about perfect this afternoon. I had low expectations, due to previous experiences at some other Anoka County Parks where walkers had obliterated the ski trails. As the photos show, the trails here were unmarred. I'll definitely be back to work on classic technique. And the sign says they rent skis, so it's a good place to take a new skier.
