Grooming
[ Trails Open: All, Good skis ]
All of the virtual Birkie loops, skate decks and classic tracks were groomed last night. And the trails are skiing crisp and fast this morning. It was very warm yesterday afternoon, and the snow was practically slush. As a result, some of the classic tracks might be glazed this morning. We’re expecting warm temps today again, but the cloud cover should help keep the snow from getting too warm.

Observation Secondhand
[ Trails Open: All, Good skis ]
Our groomers have been working hard all week to keep the trails in shape. Early skiers this morning report that the trails are in great condition. We do recommend getting out early. Even thought the weather is going to be beautiful, with high 30's forecasted for the afternoon, the trails are bound to get a little sticky! That has been the trend for the last couple of days. Skiers report that the trails are hard and fast in the morning, but they start to slow down a bit as the day warms up through the afternoon. Grooming plans: We will be grooming tonight, and temperatures tomorrow morning will start out in the 20's and work their way up to the low 40's by around 2pm. Congratulation and good luck to all the Birkie skiers - wherever they may be skiing!

Firsthand: Freestyle Grooming
[ Trails Open: All, Good skis ]
Our groomers went out in the pre-dawn hours to take advantage of the fresh snow we got Sunday night. The new snow had a little bit of moisture in it, and packed up nicely. At 9:30, I went for a short skate ski to test the trail and it had firmed up nicely. Everything looks great!

Tracks were reset, and some of the skate deck was touched up on Wednesday morning. There was a very slight dusting of snow last night. I'm not a super fast skier, but it didn't seem to slow me down. Next scheduled grooming Thursday night, Feb 18.

Evening
Grooming
[ Trails Open: All, Good skis ]
Our groomers went out and reset the tracks and skate deck on every loop at night. As has been our pattern the last couple of days, some lake effect snow blew in after they were done leaving about 1/4 of light fluffy snow on top of everything. It makes for some beautiful scenery and our skiers are reporting that, despite the snow, the trails are running hard and fast. Next scheduled grooming is Saturday morning.

Morning
Grooming
[ Trails Open: All, Good skis ]
As expected we got some great snow last night. Depending on where we measure, there was 10-12" of new snow to work with. So our groomers were out pretty much all night starting with rolling, and then the final grooming starting at 4 a.m. It makes for a long night, but the trails are in excellent condition.

Morning
Grooming
[ Trails Open: All, Good skis ]
All of the skate lanes and classic tracks were refreshed early Wednesday morning. Temperatures were ideal for grooming, and the trails set up nicely before the first skiers got there. We also went out and added some additional signage for snowshoers to correct an issues where some of them were getting lost and wandering out on to the ski trails. Our next scheduled grooming is early Thursday morning. Depending on snowfall, we may adjust our timing to try and take better advantage of conditions.

Firsthand: Freestyle Grooming
[ Trails Open: All, Good skis ]
Our groomers. Brad and Nick, got a head of the cold temperatures last night and reset all of the tracks and skate lanes. I went out for a quick skate ski on our warm-up loop and can report the trails set up great and are are hard and fast this morning. The classic lanes look great as well.

Conditions were excellent today. Trails were freshly groomed, the skate deck was firm, and the tracks were deep and firm. The sun was shining and the temperature was around 20 F. It just doesn’t get any better than this. I skied the red loop including the out and back as well as the blue loop for a total of 20 kilometers. It was a great day of skate skiing.
