Trail Reports

2020-2021 season
Reports 1 to 9 of 9    Month: Feb | Jan

Morning
Firsthand: Classic
[ Trails Open: All, Good skis ]
Trail was in very good shape. Classic tracks are a bit shallow, but overall good. Skate lane is solid for good edge control. We started our ski at 9:30 and the snow was a bit hard and noisy. By 10 am it had softened enough for really good kick and stride. This trail is shaded so should be good for several hours.

I was advised by park staff today that the trails were groomed this week (sometime during Tuesday-Thursday). Not sure when exactly, but they were groomed.

Classic skied and was pleasantly surprised with how good the tracks were. Some expected leaves in tracks but really no thin spots, so good skis can definitely be used. Cold weather is doing a good job of keeping the walkers off the trail. Skate deck looked good but soft in some spots and had light dusting of snow on top after the last grooming. Was a bit slow with cold temps, but overall was good!

Freshly groomed and tracked, and freezing temps kept all but one walker (who wasn't out for very long, from what I could see) off ski trails, and it was marvelous. Great skiing. Classic tracks were set but still soft. Some debris down and one thin spot on an uphill. Snow felt like skiing on sandpaper, but that just kept me work harder and stay warm. Thanks groomers!

Saw the grooming report and got there two hours after grooming. It's a close location near where I live. Good hill climb and decent km's for loops, just lovely all around. Groomer did a great job. However, lots of walkers down the middle of the trail, so kinda ruined the grooming. I felt bad in that regard that they spent the time grooming and it's not going to last very long for that reason. Still, it was decent enough for an easy or recreational ski for the time being, just had to watch your feet some. Packed and semi fast, some debris down, but mostly leaves. Classic tracks were set. Get out there while it's still fun and before all the walkers punch too many holes!

I was pleasantly surprised today when I arrived at the trail system and it had been groomed after the 2” of fresh snow we received Saturday night. It had been packed, rolled and classic track set. There is enough snow for a fairly deep classic track on most of the trail system and there were only a few areas where debris was showing. The skate deck was a bit soft. I started at the north end of the system off Shorewood Heights Parkway because sometimes the spur trail leading from the parking area off Van Es Parkway is icy.
