Firsthand: Classic

Ski games trail. Icy/slushy! Still skiable, a few puddles and avoidable bare patches. Not groomed on Sunday. Sunny, gorgeous, still fun. The season is ending.

Read the groomers report this morning and skied the Gold And Silver trails and looked real good for skating. These were just groomed holding up well in light of the warm temps and bright sun. The Games trail was still pretty good for Classic but has not been groomed for several days and some exposed areas deteriorating. Thank you groomers for extending my season and what a beautiful day to be out!

Morning
Grooming
[ Trails Open: Most, B skis ]
Resurfaced skating deck on the Bronze & Silver. Most of the ruts removed and smoothed over. One bad icy spot at bottom of first downhill, otherwise just a few icy areas and bare ground that are easy to avoid. Overall conditions fair. Existing classic track firm but icy in areas; also leaves. Ballfield (north of parking lot) regroomed, widened and double track set.

Afternoon
Firsthand: Classic

The tracks were set and a little icy/fast in the shade and mushy/slow in the sun but still a nice time out. Walkers on the trail are starting to disrupt the tracks.

The classic track for Gold, Silver, and Bronze trails were reset this morning. The skate deck appears to be in good shape. Warm sunny conditions make for pleasant skiing.

Grooming
[ Trails Open: All, Good skis ]
Freshened up the skate decks on the Bronze, Silver, Gold, and World Cup trails after 1-1.5 inches of new snow. No resetting of tracks at this time given upcoming warmer temps, but they are in fair to very good shape. Base is holding up well and is very skiable.

Ski Games trail. It was still snowing at 7:45 when I finished. Fresh inch or so of snow on well defined but worn classic tracks and firm skate deck. New snow was melding well with the base snow, making for excellent conditions. Double poling doesn't usually get me far, but the snow was remarkably fast and I found myself gliding along with ease.

[ Trails Open: All, Good skis ]
A beautiful evening with half-moon light as well as artificial lights. Such a pleasure to ski at 17° rather than -17. Things to groomers and thanks to the city for having the lights.

Groomed the skating lane of the Gold and most of the Silver trails. Set new tracks on some of the prairie. Looks pretty nice out there!
