Still skiing March 22nd! Skied around 9:00, was already a bit messy and mashed potato-like when I started, got substantially more so over the course of the morning as things softened up. But hey, still better than running! Probably only have a couple days left. Many thanks to the crew for keeping things as good as they are, great cure for the social distancing blues!

Rugged and slow - a lot of slush, leaves and dirt. Skied around 10:30 am. But hey it’s better than no skiing. Many thanks to the Loppet for maintaining the trails all year!

Grooming
[ Trails Open: Partial, Good skis ]
Today, Sunday March 22nd is the last day of grooming for the 2019-2020 ski season at Wirth. Although this season didn’t end how we thought it would, we still have a lot to be thankful for. Thank you to our amazing ski community (family) who continues to motivate and encourage us through difficult times!

The Wirth snowmaking trail was lightning fast this morning! Got out just after 8:00 and skied until around 10. The loop was shortened just a little bit more...the loopy part up in the meadow was cut off, so no big deal. The rest of the track was really hard and fast with just enough snow scraped up by the skiers to make cornering really easy. I double poled one full lap and the classic track was great for 95% of the loop and good enough for the rest. There were lots of people out enjoying the sunshine and fast snow. Great way to get out of the house! Thanks to the Loppet and the trail crew at Wirth for keeping things going!

Classic tracks were being set late morning. Most skiers were carrying Nordic Social Distancing poles - two of them! No evidence of their use in that capacity as there was only a couple dozen cars in the lot. Near the stadium area there were 2 young novel skiers not carrying poles - they were infectious with their enthusiasm.

Still great skiing at Wirth. There is a little ice, some dirty snow, one or two spots of bare ground (that are easily avoidable), and some slush on south facing slopes and areas with little cover. Besides that, trails are still very firm and fast. The "back 40" trails and the Sprint course are still open.

Pretty good trails this morning. There was one bare spot that I saw, but it wasn't too big to go around. The snow was a bit dirty in some spots. I didn't see any classic tracks on the loops that I skied on. The trails were pretty much empty when I arrived, and when I left the were a few more people, but they were easy to avoid if you're worried about catching the virus. Just avoid eye contact and you won't be bothered.

Thanks to the Loppet Foundation for grooming some decent tracks on the Twin Lake trail. I was there at 10:30 with my skins. Worked fine. Soft and slow but great to be outside in these times. Fun to see a family ready to go. Keep getting fresh air everyone.

Beautiful late morning ski at Wirth - tons of sun and the snow was quite good until close to 11am when some of the uphills were getting messy. Even so, fantastic conditions and we got to see Jessie skiing with the Stillwater nordic team.

Amazingly fun conditions at Wirth early this morning. Full coverage, firm and fast. No ice. Note: The Trailhead building is closed (for the foreseeable future) and the lights beyond the stadium were off, but the parking lot was full when I left. Well worth the drive.
