I skied the natural trails north of Glenwood (except Wirth Lake) and the machine made trails early Monday morning. There was about an inch (or more?) of fresh powder on all the natural trails and on twin lake/green meadow on the machine loop. Overall natural trails seemed great coverage wise. I was using good skis, but you may want to use B skis. Under the powder there was definitely ice in several places throughout. JD Rivers had a few icy spots, bridge trail had several, and skyline had a few. But for the most part the conditions were fast and fun with the fluffy powder. I don't think I encountered anything that would cause damage, but the icy spots could knock you off balance for sure. Under Hwy 55 seemed fine (I double poll under there but others were skating and seemed OK).

The snow was coming down fast. Fast enough to cover our tracks between laps on the made snow loop. It was tough to tell what the deck was like underneath the fresh snow, but it seemed like good conditions in most places. The Trail 18 hill seemed a little crispy underneath, but with the fresh snow it was no issue at all. The new rollers on Trail 18 are a little odd- just enough to throw off a stride. Beautiful evening for a ski!

Grooming
[ Trails Open: Most, B skis ]
All Theodore Wirth natural snow trails from Bridge Trail south were groomed and tracked overnight. The new snow was light and fluffy, but should help in covering up the icy areas that remained after the last snowfall. On the snowmaking loop, Trail 18 and the maintenance loop are now open, for around 6K total.

Natural snow report: Took the dogs skijoring today at about 4pm. The natural snow was in rough shape. Glare ice in many places made me wish I had ice skates and not skis. The dogs had a fun time, but it was a struggle to stay on the trails due to the ice. Hoping the new snow makes it a bit more skiable, but the layer of ice underneath might make it tough. Even with the conditions, it's always a great day for skijoring!

What a difference a day makes! Wednesday evening after the rapid freeze Wirth trails were pea size ice chunks over glare ice- actually better than I expected but not much fun. Today the trail is beautiful machine groomed sugar. The prevailing wind was a brake on down La Squadra, but uphill was like sailing with the wind.

Got in a quick workout this morning. -2F on the car thermometer. I had day-old klister, which worked just fine, but the tracks were not icy at all! The groomers did a fabulous job of reconditioning the track after the thaw-freeze cycle earlier this week. Hoping for more snow in the days to come.

Icy in a few spots and slow with blown snow in a few spots, but overall the manmade stuff was in good shape. Didn’t even try the natural snow trails, looked rough. 5K of manmade open now with more snow being blown at night.

Two words - boiler plate. Hoping freshly made snow and grooming improves it. Crushed my moderate level of confidence in skate skis.

I skied the trails around the Trailhead as well as the bridge and golf course. Other than the section down to the bridge, the trails to the north were great. On the south side with the golf course, there were a few places to with grass or a roots poking through. But I found it easy to avoid so I felt fine on my good skis. Despite the warmth, the skiing was good!
