Training Programs

We've dropped our old calendar of training events in favor of a running list of training groups.

Junior Training Programs

  • Loppet Nordic Racing
    The Loppet offers a number of spring, summer, fall and winter (plus year-round) training programs for juniors along with special camps and seminar and a competition team.   They also have programs for youth (FAST KIDS).
  • Endurance United
    Formerly Sisu Foundation, Endurance United offers programs for aspiring junior national skiers, as well as programs for those just looking to increase their fitness.  Seasonal and year-round programming options.  They also have programs for youth (Y-Team)
  • Nordicwerks
    Deno Johnson's summer training features custom designed strength workouts, as well as rollerskiing and dryland, and is open to aspiring skiers from around the regon.
  • Vakava Juniors
    Finn Sisu runs the Vakava juniors training programs, with summer and fall training programs based in the east metro.
  • Duluth XC 
    The Duluth XC Ski Club runs a summer training program running June through August and open to all abilities.  And there is a fall training program with dryland and rollerski options, running September into November.
  • Lake Superior Ski Club
    Helping junior skiers reach that next level, the Lake Superior Ski Club runs a summer juniors training program.
  • Superior Performance Nordic Programs
    Offering multiple training options, Superior Performance features summer programs that help juniors improve the fitness and technique.  Some programs for college level athletes as well.
  • Minneapolis Ski Club Nordic
    Under the Minneapolis Ski Club, Olympian Kevin Brochman has junior training programs designed to bring skiers to their best performance.
  • Mt Itasca Pre-Season XC Training
    Mt. Itasca Nordic Ski Association offers fall pre-season XC ski training sessions, Mon-Thu afternoons for juniors.  Mix of dryland, strength, and rollerskiing.
  • Wausau Nordic Ski Club
  • Offering programs for youth and junior skiers, with most on-snow sessions at Nine Mile.
  • Bemidji Sunday Ski School
    Bemidji Area Cross-Country Ski Club offers ski lessons in January on Sunday afternoons, culminating with the Barnelopet ski race for kids.
  • Sisu Endurance Team
    Winter training programs for upper peninsula youth, ages 12-14.  Sunday afternoon sessions, starting in mid-January.
  • Snowflake KidSki
    Sunday afternoons, beginning in January, to teach youngsters basic skiing and teach older kids to skate.  Open to ages 4-15.  They also offer a concurrent adult class for the parents.

Adult Training Programs

  • Endurance United
    Offering seasonal and year-round training options, with a number of sessions to choose from, Endurance United as just about something for everyone in adult Nordic training.
  • Gear West
    Featuring fall/winter ski technique and training, the Gear West program meets once a week from early fall all the way into February.
  • Loppet Nordic Racing
    The Loppet has many programs for adults throughout the year, ranging from beginner sessions to top tier racing workouts along with womens only classes.  They offer programs in running and MTB cycling as well.
  • Vakava Masters
    Vakava masters offers both year-round and fall programs for skiing, and ongoing strength training sessions. In the fall, Vakava runs a free weekly dryland session every Saturday at Battle Creek Winthrop.
  • Three Rivers Ski Club Training
    Three Rivers Parks District offers cross-country ski clubs for beginning, intermediate, and advanced skiers. Whether the goal is to get out and ski with other beginners, or get conditioned and learn racing techniques for a citizen ski race, they have several ski clubs to choose from.
  • Minneapolis Ski Club Workouts
    Fall training Saturday morning training sessions in Bloomington, led by Nordic legend Bjorn Lasserud.  Bring your ski poles - and be on time!
  • Ride and Glide Ski Club Workouts
    Fall-winter training group based out of Lake Elmo Park, with workouts on Tuesday evenings.
  • Train With Nikolai
    Fall/winter ski training with Nikolai Anikin Jr.   Thursday evening sessions in the Duluth at Chester Bowl (dryland) or Spirit Mountain (on-snow).  
  • Minneapolis Ski Club Nordic
    Olympian Kevin Brochman offers workouts at Hyland and Lake Elmo, with morning and evening options, and programs for all levels of skiers.
  • Dryland Training at Battle Creek
    Bruce Fiedler leds dryland training sessions at Battle Creek Winthrop site on Saturday mornings in the fall.  Bring hiking poles.
  • DXC Hill Bounding Sessions
    Duluth XC offers hill bounding and dryland sessions at Chester Park on Wednesday evenings in the fall. 
  • Life Time Ski Program
    Adult ski group Mondays evenings at Hyland in Bloomington, with Lynne Cecil and Drew Holbrook.
  • Duluth XC Fall/Winter Training
    Adult fall/winter training program, meeting Monday's at Chester Park and run by Duluth XC.
  • X-Training 101
    Based in Duluth, Eve Grave offers cross-training sessions in the fall/winter featuring pole hiking, dryland training, strength training and cross-country skiing.
  • Mt. Itasca Nordic Ski Association
    Offering programs for adults, as well as juniors, in both cross-country skiing and biathlon.  Led by coach Vlad Cervenka, based out of Mount Itasca in Coleraine.

Special Events, Clinics and Seminars

  • Hoigaards
    Hoigaards offers numerous clinics and seminars covering all things Nordic, as well as cycling and paddling.
  • Finn Sisu
    Finn Sisu has a weekly wax clinic, a hosts a number of clinics including special rollerski and strength training sessions.
  • Gear West
    Check out weekly wax clinics (in season), as well as some equipment demos on snow and special training events.
  • Endurance United
    Endurance United hosts a couple of trail running events, as well as some XC ski races.
  • The Loppet
    The Loppet runs a number of major races including the Tri-Loppet, Trail Loppet and the City of Lakes Ski Festival, as well as a number of fun, low-key events throughout the year.
  • Midwest Mountaineering
    Offering a huge range of clinics and seminars, the Midwest Mountaineering calendar has something just about every day each month.  And they feature huge Winter and Spring Expos.
  • Womens Weekend XC Clinic
    Riverbrook and Gear West team up to provide a special womens weekend of XC ski training in mid-December.
  • Ski and Tea Clinic
    A womens ski technique clinic on the Birkie trail, led by some of the best Midwest skiers.  Open to all abilities.
  • North End Ski Club Master Clinics
    The North End Ski Club in Cable offers a series of cross country ski clinics for adults interested in learning to ski and improving their cross country skiing skills and abilities.
