ABR's Summer Projects
By Eric Anderson, ABR Ski Trails

ABR has made substantial trail additions to their existing
system this summer and is continuing to work throughout October.
We have been working on about 5 km of trail additions.
Memory Lane is a 1.7 km beginner level skate/classic trail
accessing the new River House (more on this new modern-with
electricity and plumbing-rental addition later in the lodging
section). Memory Lane is located near the Jack Pine Trail
along the Montreal River. It is named Memory Lane because
we are working on making it a tour through history with stories
and antiques about the area along the trail.
The Meadow Ridge Loop is a new intermediate skate/classic
trail approximately 1.5 km long. It follows the ridge and
also goes into a sloped meadow before returning to the Blueberry
Bluff area of the River Trail. This trail has a nice flow
to it. This trail work is still in progress as the land purchase
agreement still has wet ink. We hope to finish the work unless
it snows too much in October.
The Deer Trail is a new beginner level skate/classic trail
located right off the trailhead which can be accessed easily
by new skate skiers. This trail is approximately 1.2 km.
We saved the best for last, although this trail is reserved
for the intermediate and advanced classic skier. The Sunset
classic only trail now has it's own return route. It is the
same 6-foot wide, roller coaster, curvy, scenic trail that
you enjoyed at the beginning but it continues right on through
to the parking lot. The trail goes over some neat bluffs and
rock formations in the Blueberry Bluff area and has a black
diamond hill at the end, which can by-passed using the River
Trail.
We have also been working on the existing trail system improving
off camber corners, drainage, leveling seeding and just shaping
up the trail system in general. One significant change is
the sand bank on Bards Bump has been completely reshaped for
a smoother, (amphitheater style bowl) but just as high, climb
and a more scenic setting. The Jack Pine also has 2 new pieces
of trail including an access trail to the old swimming hole.
The Easy Trail has also been worked on to make it smoother
in low snow.
