Maplelag Trail Updates

Maplelag Resort is pleased to announce that 7km of new trail
will be available for skiers this upcoming winter season.
Work was recently completed on 4km of new trails this past
fall. The 4km of new trail includes a 3km trail named Lucky's
Loype, named after Maplelag's dog "Lucky", and a 1km trail
called "Single Green" that utilizes the same terrain as "Suicide
Hill".
The Lucky Loype trail begins to the south of the trailhead
near the existing start of Sap Run ski trail. Except for the
first 500 meters, the majority of the trail runs on northern
exposed terrain, which should allow this trail to stay open
in adverse conditions. An optional start will be developed
to optimize the protected sections of the trail. The trail
is a mixture of rolling hills and long straight flat sections.
The trail width is 6-8'. The purpose of the narrow trail is
to provide a more intimate experience for skiers. The trail
will be groomed with the new Artic Cat "Bearcat" four stroke
snowmobile and a Ginzugroomer from YTS trailsystems. Only
one track will be set and of course the track will be lifted
on uphills and downhills when necessary.
The 1km "Single Green" starts off of "Double Green" in the
"Square Field" and heads to a high point before descending
to Bullhead Lake. This new 1km trail now boasts the longest
hill in the Maplelag trail system. The majority of the hill
is a nice straight run out with a challenging turn near the
top.
A 3km skating loop was added in the fall of 2001, but was
not able to be opened last season because of lack of snowfall.
The new skating loop has developed a good surface of grass
during the summer and all exposed roots/rocks have been picked
from this new skating loop. This new skating loop branches
off of the existing skating loop "Skaters Waltz", heads north
and does a loop around "Roy's" field.
While we had the big cat here, we improved a few corners
and turns on some of the other existing trails.
Let it snow!!
