YogaJoin us 8:15 Saturday mornings for a free 45-minute yoga class - with Andy - beginning May 31st

With our beautiful new floor upstairs in Thrifty Outfitters we thought we might just have a great space for yoga. And so we tried a yoga class with our first Outdoor Diva Night.  We were thrilled when about twenty-five women joined Andy Lear, a former Midwest Mountaineering employee, instructor, and shared a 45 minute class in our new space.

We'll have a series of Saturday morning yoga classes, beginning Saturday, May 31. Classes are 45 minutes long, and begin at 8:15.  Enter through the back parking lot door; a manager will be here early, from 8:05am to let you in.  Please arrive between 8:05 and 8:15 .   Bring your mat and water bottle, and we'll see you Saturday morning - Namaste!

Upcoming Events

Wednesday, May 28 - 2:00pm - Slacklining Demo – Walk the Line
Slacklining, the art of walking on webbing much like a tight rope, began as a pastime for climbers and has quickly become a popular outdoor activity.  Since all you need is a little gear and a couple trees, it is the perfect pass time while camping, in the park or even in the backyard. Michael Paisley will cover how to safely setup a slackline and all the equipment needed.  He'll demonstrate proper posture and balance techniques and give tips on how to walk the line with ease. Patio, Midwest Mountaineering

Wednesday, - May 28 - 6:30pm CureSearch for Children's Cancer – Ultimate Hike Information Session
The Ultimate Hike is a life changing, lifesaving adventure on the Superior Hiking Trail for individuals wanting to face this challenge while raising money towards finding a cure for children's cancer. On August 23rd you'll hike 25 miles in a day (half distance hikes available too).  Through participation in Ultimate Hike for the Cure, you'll experience adventure, accomplish a once-in-a-lifetime goal, make new friends and help Cure-Search find a cure for childhood cancer, a disease that kills more children than all others combined.  Help us – take a hike and save a life! For more info:  ultimatehike.org  Expedition Room, Midwest Mountaineering

Thursday,  May 29 6:30pm - Climbing 102
A Climbing 101 clinic is a prerequisite for this clinic.  Carolyn Hansen will provide this opportunity to expand your technical skills and help prepare you for more advanced climbing.  We'll review knots, commands, and belaying, along with more in-depth explanations and uses of climbing gear.  Don't worry; we will still have time to climb! Pre-registration recommended – limited to 10 participants.  Cost $5, no refunds.  Minimum age 15.   612–339–3433   Climbing Cave, Midwest Mountaineering

Sunday, June 1 - 10:00am - 1:00pm Taylors Falls Cleanup
The Minnesota Climbing Association and Midwest Mountaineering have been teaming up to cleanup Taylors Falls for years. Please come and join us for cleanup efforts, pizza, and prizes!  Last year was warm, so be sure to bring water. Volunteer check-in and assignment will be near the visitor's center (on the Minnesota-side parking lot).  Cleanup litter between 10:00a.m. and 1:00p.m..  Door prizes will be awarded from 1:00 to 2:00p.m.  Interstate Park, Taylors Falls, MN

Monday, June 2 - 6:30pm - Solo Wilderness Travel
Are you sick of listening to your tent mate snore?  Are you tired waiting for the group to get ready?  Do you talk to yourself?  If you answered yes to these questions, you're a perfect candidate for traveling solo. Bear Paulsen, a frequent solitary conversationalist and General Manager at Northstar Canoes, has done many extended solo wilderness trips in all seasons.  He'll discuss the differences between traveling with others and alone.  He'll cover how to travel solo safely and discuss logistical considerations. Finally, he'll ruminate on ways to approach solitude through his own experiences and the writings of many authors. Expedition Room, Midwest Mountaineering

Tuesday, June 3 -  6:30pm - Cooking with Fire
“Recent research suggests that humans have been cooking with fire for almost two million years -  a practice that not only informed the course of human evolution but also inspired generations of cooks from countless bygone cultures to manipulate fire and food in the creation of flavors and techniques that still form the foundations of regional culinary traditions everywhere.” Join us for a presentation with the knowledgeable food historian Paula Marcoux, author of the newly released cookbook, Cooking with Fire. She will share how ancient cooking techniques came to evolve, how to bring them to our campsite or kitchen, and share her favorite recipes … Yum!  Expedition Room, Midwest Mountaineering

Thursday, June 5 - 6:30pm - Climbing 101
Take yourself to new heights and learn the ropes through hands on experience in our Climbing Cave.  Learn the basics of bouldering, top roping and what you need to know to get started in this invigorating sport from our very own expert climber Carolyn Hansen.  All equipment provided.  Wear comfortable clothing! Pre-registration recommended – limited to 10 participants.  Cost $5, no refunds.  Minimum age 15.   612–339–3433  Climbing Cave, Midwest Mountaineering
