Illinois Roller Ski Race Series - Sept 7th Event

What a perfect day for a race; 70 degrees with a blue sky and no wind.

Today twenty four racers roller skied in the 2nd race of the 2014 Illinois Roller ski Race Series, which is held in the fall at Moraine Hills State Park in McHenry, Illinois.

The overall winner of today’s 10K race was Jan Myrda from Palos Heights, IL. Chris Pappathopoulos from Sun Prairie, Wisconsin finished second, and Mike Meissner, from Downers Grove, IL came in third place.

The conditions were perfect today for Jan Myrda who skied a very fast 10K race with a time 24:28 (3:46 min. per mile), and finished one minute in front of Chris Pappathopoulos who’s time was 25:28 (3:55 mpm). Jan and Chris are two of the top cross country skiers in the Midwest, and they are always fun to watch skiing, and to see who has that little extra in them that day to win. Today it was Jan turn and he looks to be strong and in mid-season form.

Seven junior NORDIC Combined racers from NORGE Ski Jump in Fox River Grove, IL participated in the 5k and 3k roller races today. The junior’s ages ranged from 5-13 years old, and it appears that the US Nordic Combined Team will have a great talent pool to choose from in the future if the junior’s ski jump with as much enthusiasm as they had today during the roller ski race.

Next race is Sunday October 5, 2014 and it will be raced on the paved River Road trail.
