Elm Creek Relays / Time Trial

Race condition: some loose snow on top of hard pack base, relatively fast condition; snow covered the entire 5K race course including Valley, Thicket, and Northern Light trails, windy, 35F, but felt like in 20s.

Race format of the night: Individual time trial, equalizing pursuit

Race results: the X/Y-generation of REST mindset appeared to have overtaken the conventional “hard training, there is no secret” mindset – but four hard core skiers showed up at tonight’s quiet Elm Creek battle field for the last good effort season ending 5K time trial.  To make the effort more worthwhile, an equalizing pursuit format was used in which two skiers started first with 2 minutes apart for the next two skiers.  Bryan McKenzie and Melinda Silbernick started in an earlier wave with John Hopkins and Kevin Neal skiing in hot pursuit.  The individual times are (if there are discrepancies in the following posted time, please send an email to [email protected]):
John Hopkins        13:13
Bryan McKenzie    14:30
Kevin Neal         14:32
Melinda Silbernick  15:22
Tonight’s time trial is the last one for the season.  Hope everyone enjoy the rest of the winter and continue pursuing whatever the passion you seek in life.  If one wants to do a couple of fun races after the Birkie weekend, check some of the early March skiing races in Minnesota including Rainbow Rendezvous xc ski race and Pole Pedal Pant winter triathlon race held by Rainbow Resort (details see www.rainbowresort.com).
