New Reports Report Requests

Notes

Maintained by Elk River Nordic Nordic Ski Club, these trails have become a hot-spot for fantastic skiing in the North Metro. Trails are largely wooded over rolling terrain, but some sections have good climbs and descents. Trails consist of several interconnected loops and are aptly named--be sure to check out the "Top-of-the-World" and "Gravity Box" as well as "Wash Pond Flats" to the NE of the biathlon range. There is not a warming shack, but at least one port-o-potty at the main parking lot. Primarily groomed for skate (not always tracked for classic).

We are finally going to throw in the towel on this great ski season. We will call April 3rd the end, which is 107 days after we opened, and 10 days shy of the record. We groomed in 6 different months. (We don't brag about that to our non-skiing (and even some of our skiing friends) It is a year-round effort by the trail crew that allows us to ski. On the grooming crew this winter, 25 dedicated volunteers logged roughly 250 hours and groomed nearly 2400 miles for our skiing pleasure. They are passionate and work hard to bring us the best skiing they can. That effort is so worth it because we get to share the trails with you. Thanks to all who made the trip to Woodlands this season. It was big fun. So, like we do at the end of every season we will leave you with our motto; Woodlands; built by skiers, groomed by skiers (and their friends), for skiers. Till next we see you on snow. Enjoy! Dave – out.

Epic conditions for one of my best last skis of the year. On behalf of "the desperate" I would like to thank the groomers - both for grooming and for posting their plans for the night before so that some of us slickers from the big city could come up and join you hearty north country folk. Thank you!

Another grooming report from Dave got me out the door two days in a row and it was worth it both times! I got going when the snow was warming up and slowing down, but the trails were still firm and in great shape for any time of year.

Pat and I made two runs with the screens around our 7k loop. Conditions weren't right to extend to 10k. Pat said he would get over it. First time we have groomed in the rain that I can remember. While far from perfect, due to not being able to erase all of the ski ruts from yesterday, it should ski just fine for the most part with a little caution. There were a dozen cars in the lot as we steered the Skandics back to the cave. Yesterday, I forgot to mention the interesting, but still skiable, trail conditions on parts of Stony Rollers and the north side of Terminal, due to drifting. Not bad for April 2 all in all. The hill coming out of Peeper Hollow is showing signs of thinning base, so I am not sure we will have a continuous loop by the end of the week. No grooming is currently planned during the week.... We are close to the end of a great ski season. Enjoy!

Grooming

Skiing for the "desperate" trail condition forecast for Woodlands-expect a few hours of very fun trail conditions starting at first light Sunday. Grooming plans: The groomers are heading out at 6 in the morning as they also want to hit the slopes early. Also, back by popular demand, the entire outer loop will be groomed. At risk of sounding like a broken record in this seemingly endless winter, this could be our last best ski of the season? Join us if you can. Enjoy!

Hats off to the groomers for a great April Fools day of skiing! I'm a newbie and being able to get a few more laps was very much appreciated! Hope to do it again tomorrow early morning.

Six new inches, rolled and ready for an April Foolish ski! Minnow joined me this morning to pull the rollers. Like the die hard skiers, only the die hard groomers are still on the job. We cut the outer loop off at the biathlon range, so it will be about 7k (you will be ok Pat, just make an extra lap or two). Some of the green trails are also rolled. Expect soft and slow, but fun just the same. It will be a beautiful day to be on the slopes. Enjoy!

Skated part of outer loop until it became too soft and I know I had to get off the snow. What a treat. Wonderful snow coverage, great grooming. Such a nice end of season outing with temps so comfortable. Top of the World can't be beat once the Birkie is behind you and you don't have to be working to train. Come out and enjoy it as long as it lasts. Donate to the trail maintenance crew if you can. It does make a difference!
